Hi all

I have just finished putting together a list of all the components I am thinking of buying for my new PC. Before I go ahead and buy it all I was hoping someone could take a quick look over and make sure everything is ok? e.g. no compatibility issues etc

CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-365-IN)

Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-458-AS)

RAM: Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-094-KS) x 2 so 16Gb total

Graphics Card: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-256-SP)
Or
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6950 "Dual Fan Edition" 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-273-SP)
£40 difference for an extra fan so unsure here.

HD1: OCZ Agility 3 60GB 2.5" SATA-3 Solid State Hard Drive (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-075-OC)

HD2: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-364-WD&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=940)

PSU: Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 850W V2 High Performance '80 Plus Bronze' (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-039-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1084)

CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro H60 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-006-CS)

Case: Cooler Master HAF 922 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-176-CM)

If you think there's a better component out there for a similar price I would appreciate it if you let me know.

Thanks in advance

The SSD was a tough choice but I am leaning towards the OCZ Agility as the R/W speeds are quite a bit faster and I have used OCZ before. Hopefully they will continue to work well for me :)

Does everything else look ok to you?

:)

I wouldn't mind the sapphire for £200, but if you want a Twin Frozr, then that's good too. The Asus DirectCU (3 slot card) is also very good and very similar. Also a shout for the NVidia MSI GTX 570, at £230. It's got less VRAM but more raw power and better tesselation (meh :/).

The Asus Motherboard is good, the Extreme 4 is probably the best all rounder.

The Corsair TX is a good PSU, but you only need 750W for XFire 6950, so you can downgrade your requirements a bit. the XFX =, like the Corsair V2 series, are Seasonic platforms, so very good all round. You have a few choices in terms of good PSUs.

The Lancool is the pick of the bunch for £80.

The Silver Arrow is also the best cooler on the market in pretty much every category (performance, value, noise). It will work well with the Asrock Extreme 4 that has two CPU PWM fan headers. If you want a water cooler, the Antec Kuhler H2O has great reviews and performs well.

If you still want the OCZ agility, go for it.

If this is a gaming rig, then the 2500K will perform exactly the same as the 2600K. If you want the best processor on the market, then the 2600K way ahead of everything else in thread heavy tasks (rendering, video and image processing).

Some would say 8GB is overkill, but I would get that too given how cheap it is. And it gives you the opportunity to run the OS without virtual memory. There is no need to go with extreme memory, Sandybridge overclocks the same regardless of memory speed and latency.

The F3 is also the best performing HD at the moment. I have two 1TB and no problems to report.

I don't like Samsung optical drives (had a few issues in the past), so I specced the LG, which is a good brand.

I think that should round it up :)

I don't think you could get much more in terms of power and quality for £1000. Dropping the 2600K and SSD, you could go for a 580 GTX. But I'd wait until the models with more VRAM are available (Gainward are pushing for 3GB cards).

Thanks for your help, think I will get most of the things you suggested.

Is there a reason why you prefer the Lancool case over the Cool Master 922? I quite like the look of the Cool Master (for size, cooling etc) and it has good reviews but if there's a reason why the Lancool is better I will change to it.

i love the haf 922 :p has gotten some good reviews also great cooling looks are not for everyone but its a good case mate if you like it it is money well spent

olivier renault has given a awsome build cant beat it :p only thing i would hcnage woul be the gfx card to the twin frozr 111

lancool is a awsome case easy to install good cooling but the haf 922 is just as good in my eyes there is nothing wrong with it money well spent and i love the look of the haf cases

The lancool is more modern, and I like the look of it. It's got all the features you'd need. If you prefer the 922, I'm sure it will do a good job too.

I'd double check on the 922 and the silver arrow, as it's such a big lump. May interfere with the side fan.

EDIT : http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling/1021156-does-silver-arrow-fit-haf922.html

It will fit without a fan.
Will not fit with a side fan.

With the side panel on you are looking at about 1/4 inch clearance from the top of the heat sink to the panel.

Pretty much all cases will suffer with a Silver Arrow inside, so no worries. You can probably move the fan somewhere else (top). Or you can change to a H2O / H60.

Pretty much went for that build but with the Twin Frozr, OCZ Agility and HAF.

Read a few forums and as you say the Silver Arrow will fit in the HAF, but the side fan will need to be moved which shouldn't be a problem.

Can't wait until it arrives :) Thanks
