7 months ago my excellent adsl service which I have had since 2000 turned to crap overnight. Since then it has been the same story:

1-2 weeks of uptime with a rock solid snr.
Followed by 1-2 weeks of snr drops of -50 every couple of mins.

During the past 7 months I have:

Had openreach out several times. They must be the most useless bunch of folks I have ever met.
Changed supplier three times, and am now on an LLU service.
Had the tie pairs or something like that changed at the exchange.
Had all wiring from the drop cable renewed.
Changed router three times.

None of the above had any effect. No matter who I phone, no one can help. I have searched the Internet for similar circs but have yet to find anyone experience a drop of 50db or more snr. Sure it could be interference from someone, but it's all underground wiring here, and I just can't understand what could cause a drop of 50db. It's crazy.

I work from home so the last 7 months has been a nightmare.

NTL are coming on the 24th Jan. I really don't want to go with them for the reason that their customer service is beyond terrible. Bare in mind that the original install date NTL gave me was early October!

So, if anyone can offer any suggestions, I would be most thankful. You would be saving me from the horrible customer service that is ntl.

Cheers.

I'm pleased to read the above posts re ntl.

In October I had convinced myself that NTL was the way to go and that my adsl would never be fixed. I canceled sky and went all in for the 10mb broadband, tv and phone.

They gave me an install date and everything was great. So I took the day off, and know one showed. No phone call or anything. This has happened three times now. No one shows, no one phones. All I get is a letter saying how sorry they are, with a new install date in a months time. I have now decided to just get the 10mb broadband service.

I appear to be unlucky enough to have had my adsl fubar overnight and now can't get ntl to do a simple installation. :(
