Is there any money i can save anywhere? Is a cheaper PSU doable?

e8400 + very mild overclock = e8500

your MB should come with all cables you need (45cm SATA cables + IDE cables etc), so unless you need 60cm cables or clear ones, loose them

theres no point getting 8400 over 8500 at moment imo, its only a tenner, though you could look at dropping down to an E7400 and clocking it back up, you could also change the mobo for the gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L, so long as youre not bothered about going crossfire at a later date, this would save you £30 there, Id add in an aftermarket cooler for CPU too, even if its just the akasa ak965

Everyone was saying i should get a P45 board. I dont know diddley squat about motherboards so i've no idea what a P45 does for me that a P43 doesn't.

Any thoughts on a PSU?

Haven't a lot of people had problems with OCZ memory and Asus mobos? Maybe go for the Corsair PC2 XMS2 sticks. They're on offer for a couple more days too.

EDIT: IIRC, P43 and P45 are pretty similar, but as the manufacturers were told that P45 would be more tailored for gaming and higher end use, P45's have ended up more feature rich boards (better for overclocking etc.) in general I think.

On the PSU front, the Corsair 550VX looks a safe bet. It is a certified PSU for that card and is £10 cheaper.

There should be little difference between the cosair and the coolermaster psu, its only perceived/actual reliability. I have used a coolermaster for the last 2 years with no problem.

OCZ mem can cause problems, normally solved with extra voltage, but not always

Thanks guys. I'll go for the P43 then as any overclocking i do will only be minor.

Is the coolermaster PSU no good? £65 for a modular PSU sounds like good value.

And could someone confirm that these new mobo's only have one IDE port? I ask because i have an IDE hard drive i'd like to keep aswell as my IDE DVD-RW drive. Is it ok to run them both off the same cable?

What would recomend for a CPU cooler? Is the Tuniq tower good enough?

Cheers

could get artic freezer 7, many have used it and seem happy, personnally i would use stock cooler at first and then get a tuniq later when you need to OC

at 3ghz you should be able to run just about anything

PS should be able to do some gentle OC aith stock cooler, just check temps and you can decide when you need to get better cooler

The main difference is P45 supports crossfire, P43 doesnt (they only have 1 PCI-E slot), and yeah theres marginally more headroom to OC on the P45's but tbh its not noticable by most users, so the main thing is the crossfire

Thee coolermaster is a fine psu imho. But the corsair has a very good name behind it. I would buy the Coolermaster.

I also use the artic freezer 7, cool and quiet and half the price of the tuniq
