Hey folks, finally made all my decisions and have a basket full of goodies ready to be ordered. Can you all please just double check I've not made any stupid mistakes!

My basket is in the spoiler!

Main things I had a guess at were:

1. Make of GFX card, is Galax ok? I saw Ocuk had a deal today for the gtx 970 hence choosing it over the Inno3D 970 OC.

2. PSU - Made an educated guess as to a decent make and what wattage I'd need! Will it be ok?

3. I really don't get what all the numbers associated with RAM mean, I think the stuff I've got is ok? Is there cheaper stuff that would do the job?

Any change ideas would be great! Thanks!

i was considering getting the same GPU but as you ive not heard of the make before so a bit unsure what its going to be like.

everything seems fine, the WD Drive is mainly for raid\nas drives so you maybe able to get a cheaper one unless you want that drive

after having a quick look the only other drive with 4TB is this

but its only a tenner cheaper so not a big saving

failing that if you are willing to loose 1TB you can get this for quite a bit cheaper

I think the PCB is blue on that Galax (hence why there is a "black edition" for more ££) this may annoy you or not.

But the case doesnt have a window anyway so errr.

Thanks for the hdd info, I'm actually going to put the WD Red into my microserver and use a 1tb WD Green that is in there at the moment in my new rig (as I want to slowly increase the storage in the server) The Green is only going to be storage as the SSD will have all the programs on, so shouldn't be an issue. As long as 2 years running in a NAS hasn't ruined it!! :D

YOUR BASKET
1 x Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB (2x8GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (HX324C11T3K2/16) £129.95
1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 850W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £109.99
Total : £249.54 (includes shipping : £8.00).

The G2 is also made by Superflower and has a 10yr warranty.

Same RAM in a different frock, yet £10 less.

Ah excellent, thanks! £15 extra for extra 5 years warranty sounds good to me! I'll change that over, also since the ram is the same I'll swap that two. It looks fairly big in the photo, assume there will be no issues fitting it all in?

Haha indeed no window on the case, I've no urge to look inside so as long as the hardware is good, fast and reliable then I don't care what it looks like!

That PSU is complete overkill unless you're thinking of adding another card or two later.

oh really? What wattage should I be looking at? Thought 850W wasn't really a big deal?:D

Its unlikely I'll be adding a 2nd card in the future, I don't play a *huge* amount of games..

my current PSU is a Corsair HX 620W ATX Mod SLI from 2008.

It would be sensible to replace that PSU, as it is now 6 years old, and from what I can found the 12V is split in 3 rails. The graphics card would take a serious chunk out if the power of any of the single rails.

For your setup though a modern 550W would be plenty, like the superflower series, and the only reason you'd get a recommendation for 850W would be if you are considering using 2 GPU's

Don't worry about it, the 850 isnt overkill at all. The system will pull what is needs and gives scope to run dual GPUs later on. I would also advise against keeping PSUs for longer then 4-5 years, maybe less, as they degrade over time with potentially a bigger risk to the unit/PC (depending on the PSU) coming to a nasty end.

Thanks for all the info regarding the PSU! How about going for one step down? The EVGA G2 750w modular? Saves £20!

Stupid little question...does the AIO cooler come with thermal paste already? or do I need to buy some?
