hi all,

I'm about to upgrade from my athlon x2 4200. I have decided to go for a q6600 rig and therefore I will need a new mobo and ddr2 ram!

My inital idea is this;

Q6600
Asus p5k
4gb Ocz reaper ram

These parts will join;

Raptor hdd
2xWd hdd's
and my trusty 7800gtx.

Now I'm not a huge gamer so my gfx card willdo me fine for the mo. I'm need a rig that can handle hardcore photoshop and rendering tasks hence the 4gb of ram....... I would like to be able to clock the processor to 3.0ghz I'm not wanting to go mental as I need stability!

I'm also hoping to go with windows vista 64bit to utalize the full potential of the rig.

---------------------------

So my questions are;

1. Is the spec ok for getting 3.0ghz on the q6600? With an arctic cooler?

2. Is vista 64 terrible? Would I be better getting 2gb of ram and 32bit os?

3. I have around 500 to spend including a decent psu. Any other options would be great!

Thanks guys

that psu looks great I think I will go for the corsair.

I have heard xp pro won't use 4gb of ram?? In any case will a 64 bit be faster in normal operation?

With regard to the memory will I be ok with 6400 or should I go faster?

Cheers

Im now contemplating getting a MSI P35 Neo2-FR iP35 over the P5K?? Does this seem silly? My only question is whats the difference between crossfire and sli?

Or maybe the Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R......

God i dont understand all of these different Mobos..... Why cant it just be simple like socket A days?

Anyone say which ones best?
