I decided to build a new gaming PC to go with my shiny new copy of Win7 Pro. Unfortunately I'm hugely indecisive, so it's taken a while to come to the following spec. I'm not looking to chuck a barrel load of money at it, but given my current spec I should see a good improvement.

Current spec:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+
MSI K8N Neo4
2Gb Crucial Ballistix DDR
BFG GeForce 8800GTS OC
Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty
Seasonic S12 500W
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320Gb
Western Digital WD2500AAKS-00B3A0 250Gb
Coolermaster Praetorian 731 case

New spec:
Core i5 750
MSI P55-GD65
Patriot Sector 5 Viper II 4GB DDR3

I'll be keeping the HDDs, sound, power and case. GFX will also stay in until the 5850s drop in price a little in the new year. I'm not planning on doing any overclocking, but I do see putting in a second 5850 in Crossfire as a upgrade path a bit further down the line (clearly I'll need a bigger PSU then too!).

Any comments?

I would get a new PSU now so that it's all ready for when you get your 5850. I can't see PSU prices dropping much tbh, my PSU has gone up like £20 since february! Then when your 5850 arrives you simply have to drop it in! No need for a complete rebuild.

If you plan to crossfire two 5850s, I'd go for one of these.
