Hi all,

Here's my final spec -

Instead of going for the Phenom II 965 I've gone for the 930 i7 cpu... but I don't know if I would be better off getting the 920 D0 stepping cpu instead? The 930 is about 30 quid more.

I've gone purposely for a cheap graphics card at the moment and will be upgrading this at the end of april to probably a 5770.

This kit will be going in a Coolermaster Black Widow case - remember them? CM201 I think they were code named, along with a Corsair HX520W Modular PSU. I just hope the PSU is ok, obviously it might need upgrading with a 5770 but that's ok. HDDs, sound, optical drives etc. already waiting.

so here it is...

oh and I must say thanks to the guys in my other thread who were helping me spec together these parts... sorry for the complete Intel U-Turn though!

The 930 just about justifies its extra cost over the 920(being discontinued soon)

And your black widow case if your not aware is worth some good money and rare.

Your psu will be fine with a 5770.

Looks good. Will you be overclocking? If you are then you may as well go for the 920 - it is a bit cheaper now and both 920 and 930 will reach 4GHz with good air cooling.

If you don't plan on overclocking, then the 930 will be a bit faster at stock speeds - so the premium can be justified.

The PSU should be absolutely fine.

I would like to overclock and get nearer some 4ghz at some stage in the non too distant future. If I do overclock then I'll be getting more in the end result with the 930 and its extra speed. Or do they both bottle at the same sort of point when overclocked?

In the custom pc or bit-tech, they got the 920 upto 4.08ghz and the 930 upto 4.3ghz and it was happy to run at that for hours and hours.

It depends on how you will be cooling them. With high-end air cooling like a TRUE of Megahalems you will be able to hit around 4GHz with both, but going further than that you will be limited by heat (not the motherboard BCLK). In this case, you may as well go for the 920 and save yourself some money.

If you plan on custom watercooling then you will be able to bring much more cooling power to bear. In this situation, the slightly higher Multiplier of the 930 will allow you to overclock higher, as motherboard BCLK will likely be holding you back.

Does Free DPD Next Day Shipping not apply to Saturday deliveries then? the only option I have if I want it tomorrow is the £15 saturday delivery :o

I really want it tomorrow and didn't want to have to go through a competitor!

Weekend delivery always cost more, you would get it monday or Tuesday if you order now, stock permitting.

Yeah but the 930 has a fixed multiplier of exactly one higher than the 920 for little extra money - so you can achieve 4 GHz with less BCLK.

Hey smr!!

The components you have there ive jus bought myself excluding the Graphics card and in the end went for the 920 D0, i couldnt resist the temptation for the £205 chip to save money over the 930.

I have to bloody wait till monday as my mouth dropped to see the saturday delivery prices at £15 lol :D

GL mate!
