quick question. Im geeting the GA-Z68XP-UD4 tomorrow and wondering what sata sockets are best to use for my SSD,HHD and dvd?

Ignore the two top Grey ports controlled by the Marvel chip.

Connect the SSD to a White port

Connect the HDD/DVD to the Black ports.

Enter the BIOS and set the SATA controllers to AHCI.

Dont forget to disable disk defrag. Nothing quicker at killing SSD's.

I was told by someone that when you put it to AHCI rather than IDE, it disables defrag automatically?

Is that incorrect then?

Defrag isnt disabled automatically when I do a re-install with AHCI set.

Isn't running the Windows Experience Index supposed to disable defrag and enable TRIM for SSD's?

Maybe that is what I was thinking of then, not AHCI mode, I can't remember

Nope, always had mine scheduled for a Wednesday, so I cancel that.

Running the WEI should turn of defrag for SSD's.

It musn't have worked in your case.

Yep
Mine was disabled automatically

ssd only plugged in
set AHCI in bios
Installed windows 7 64bit
Installed chipset then vga drivers
Ran WEI restarted
Checked defrag, but it was already disabled on the ssd
Installed anti virus, all other drivers, windows updates

Done it with a vertex 2e, then an Agility 3 when I upgraded and it worked on both.

Not sure if it's cos I'm on a different board, but it works for me

I find its just set to weekly on a Wednesday as per normal HDD.

Guess Ultimate isnt so Ultimate?
