Just wanted your opinion that I'm making the right decision with my Christmas upgrade and if there's anything that you'd change.

I'm looking at beginning some PC gaming soon, as I've always enjoyed it yet my x1650xt hasn't really cut the mustard. So obviously for that reason I plan on buying a new GPU.

The 2nd part of my upgrade will be the monitor, which is currently a Acer 19" Widescreen with only 1 analogue input - which isn't really good. And it appears that a 1440*900 resolution these days isn't really ideal so I plan on also doing a monitor upgrade, well I have to now as it's on the bay!

Here's what I've spec'ed up so far, I'm wondering if it's the best route to go down because I really just want something suitable for gaming in 2008 and will cut the mustard throughout any new title releases etc.

Is that any good? I know it's the most expensive path but I thought what's the point getting an 8800GT with a 24 inch, and what's the point with a 8800GTX on a 20/22 inch? It's a bit of a dillemma really so I just thought I'd ask you guys if what I've chosen is best.

Thanks,
Dharok.

I would go for the 8800GT, purely on what I've heard on the forums. I'm no expert but I'm sure the GT's run as good as the GTX's but I don't know about higher resolutions (I run at 1280x1024, EAT MY 17" POWAH!)

I've read the reviews of the DGM 24's in the monitors section and the overall feedback seems to be a very good one, i.e. people who are spec'ing 22" Samsung's are being advised to stretch that extra budget and go for the 24. So I belive it could be worth it, as it is a PVA panel and I've also heard the Samsung's are a bit of a lottery when it comes to panels - I usually fail to win anything whenver I do the lottery xD

Nevermind thanks for your help anyways guys, went with the 24 inch and the GTX as stated in the original post.

Hopefully I will see a lot of difference in gaming now, upgrading from a poor 19 inch widescreen TFT and a ATI x1650xt!!

Good stuff. That's what i'd have done too!

I went from a 22" to a 24" and will never go back. The GTX is also a stonking card and perfectly suited to 1920x1200+ high resolution gaming.

Enjoy! :)
