and just buy the subscription.
or do you have to buy the game and install it from disc?

That. I picked it up for £17 on release, prior to the (almost deservedly) negative press.

Also, it's free to play indefinitely until SE make the game worth paying for - their words not mine . PS3 release has been delayed until such time, too. They released two decently-sized updates in November & December, it hasn't really fixed the game yet though. Infact I've not played it for about 2 weeks; a shame, considering I'd logged over 300 days' playtime on my main alone in FFXI.
