I'm not sure how much of you guys are Final Fantasy fans but is anyone looking forward to this MMORPG offering?

It'll be released in mid-2010, and whilst only being announced in June, a fair amount of information has been released (http://www.final-fantasy-14.org is a good source).

I've not really played many MMORPGs and I skipped FF11, but as a big FF fan I'm looking forward to this and the information and images I've seen so far appeal to me.

The classes system seems pretty cool, you are not restricted to any one or two classes but can change classes throughout the game depending on what you equip, so you can get very unique characters.

(sorry if there is another thread on this but the search yielded nothing)

11 was rubbish on PC so not really no, it revolved more around group play I found and levelling on your own was very slow.

The combat was very stiff and dull too.

Only if there's a certain set of quests you can do to 'complete' the main part of the game within a reasonable period (say, less than 100 hours of game play). Otherwise, boo, no, muhmorpahgah timesink.

I certainly will be buying it!

After wasting 9600 hours on FFXI. I can certainly understand why people would have been put off 11, i had to stop playing just since because it is so group orientated you need a good few hours to do anything and nobody wants to spend all their free time standing around waiting for a group of people to do a 30 minute quest. The combat system was also very slow with limited abilities which doubly made doing anything solo almost impossible. But since the game was so group orientated if you managed to get into a decent group of people the game does becomes quite addictive.

You could complete the basic nation quests in FFXI in 100 hours easily, since apart from 2 fights the mission system from rank 1-6 (original set) Apart from the battles at mission 2-3 (level 25 cap), 5-1 (level 50 cap) and 5-2 (uncapped) you can solo it all yourself with the right items at level 50 which shouldn't take long to get to if you get lucky in the parties while EXP'ing (group orientated sadly) the last mission can be soloed by any max level. Of course after rank 6 theres the nations back storyline 6-10 then the expansion packs so after that your going to need to invest into a pretty hefty timesink (the downside of the game)

Enough off topic FFXI talk:

Square have said themselves that FFXIV is going to be a lot more balanced towards solo play. Their most recent updates on FFXI have also been slightly more solo focused although i have little interest in that nowadays as it is far too outdated for me now.

From looking at the Alpha screens of FFXIV at gamescom it seems a lot more fast paced and obviously a lot prettier, especially the weather effects. Square also have the official sites all up and running for JP/NA and EU now. With a good chunk of info although still missing a bit on other cities and the like.

The Guildleves system and travel in FFXIV certainly cuts out one of my biggest pet hates in FFXI which was travel with the ability to warp to your quest, do it then warp back home cuts down the monotonus walking from zone to zone which was a neccesity to get anywhere in FFXI.

So far all things seem positive especially for it being at Alpha stage.

I'm getting 13, if there's a demo of 14 I'll try that, but I did not like FFXI at all. Haven't really looked much into it, might have a look around tonight...

While I liked it, I'll agree that levelling was too much work, especially crafting. Then again, something like LotRO lets you level too quickly imo. Maybe they'll strike a balance with FFXIV.

Some more news about ff14 has come out,
Square Enix’s Global Online Producer Sage Sundi recently confirmed to OneLastContinue that Final Fantasy XIV Online will support cross-platform interactivity for players. This means that both Playstation 3 and PC users will be able to interact with each other across the different platforms. Mr. Sundi explained that cross-platform interactivity often causes problems with online identities, so the team is looking into implementing a name/surname system into the game to allow players with the same identity to have a dual name. This would hopefully put a stop to arguments about identity theft.

Sage also went on to say that the Playstation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIV will have full keyboard and mouse support. This will make Final Fantasy XIV the second full-scale Playstation 3 game to implement such a feature.

Your argument is boring after seeing it in every FFXI thread ever, if you don't like it don't post.

I will be getting XIV, it looks fantastic. If the community is similar to XI then it will be brilliant.

ffxivcore.com for lots of juicy info from gamescon etc.

To say the game is in alpha still it looks damn good already.

If I was to guess, You're a WoW fan. One of those fans that finds in impossible to expand beyond what it offers. :p

Personally I enjoyed FF11, More so after the expansions came out. I love having it on 360, and will be looking forward to 14.

The subscriptions are a bit more complex in XI than most MMO's

You have your £8.99 a month (IIRC) then you pay I think 50p per content ID you have.

Less than a tenner though even if you have 3-4 characters which aren't really needed unless you want mules in each or the main cities.

Thankfully the subs are being simplified in XIV to pretty much same as wow etc with 30 day subs.
