Final Fantasy 9 On PSN Store

Played through this last year and can thoroughly recommend it. :)

I've only played through this one, VII and X and it's hard to say which was my favourite. Would probably opt for VII as it was the first I played though, and the story edges it for me.

Now we just need the original PS1 version of Final Fantasy Tactics for the classic Square games to be almost complete. The U.S store has had that game for ages now.

It never got a PAL release, so the chances of that happening are slim to none tbh. You can however, just do what I did and dl it from the US store :)

That is a very good point and I totally forgotten about that. Guess it was a U.S version and chipped PS1 I played back then.

In any case, ****! :p

Guess I'll have to check out some pre-paid cards or whatever to get it.

I think I'm going to have to download this as its the only FF game I've not completed since 7, and it seems that most people rate it higher than 7 also. Then again, a lot of people rate X pretty highly, and I hated that.

9 was great but next to the other FFs it is my least favourite. Ofcourse, taste is everything.

This, at least until XIII was released. Great game, atrocious characters - Quina made me want to vomit, Zidane needed a good hard slap. the story, too, was poor even as final fantasy goes. I mean, what was up with that last boss fight?

gah, typical...I hadn't log started playing this on the ps1 and got a good 20 hours into it.

if only I could transfer my save...

If you've got a PS2/PS3 you can.

Some what convoluted but you need to transfer the save files from your PS1 memory card to a PS2 memory card using the PS2.

You then need one of these and you can then copy to the PS3 and copy them to the individual 'virtual memory cards'

FFVII + FFVIII I love.

I have to say, this is the first time I've played 9 (shock horror, string him up, etc...) I'm struggling with the characters already :/

I'll give it a few more hours before it gets sidelined completely.

A poor story, boring characters and a forgettable soundtrack spoil what could otherwise have been a fantastic game.

It's was a decent enough RPG for it's day, but a poor Final Fantasy.

It's not that poor when you've tried X-2 and XIII. IX still holds its own and I think it's a decent FF. A bit short perhaps, but still has plenty of exploration, side-quests, and a good levelling & skills system. X and onwards sorely lacks all of those. Especially the ****-heap that is XIII, which is really a glorified linear action-RPG with less substance than Katie Price.

troll itt:

Hardly.

As a long-term Final Fantasy fan am I not allowed to give my opinion on the game in a thread about it?

As it happens I'm playing it though again now by coincidence - albeit the original PS1 version. I'm finding the game itself enjoyable, but (as above) the plot, characters and soundtrack fail to captivate.

Apologies if disagreeing with your opinion offends you.

Well actually, not really, considering this thread (i'm assuming) aims to:

1. Inform forum goers that FF9 is now available on PSN.
2. Act as a circle jerk pit for forum goers who love said game.

It's for those two reasons that I really don't feel the need to be debating why you're wrong.

Excuse me for trivialties, but sparing us the use of "in my opinion" implies that you genuinely believe; on a critical level, that the game has a bad musical score and boring characters. I can't really take you for anything other than a troll with a very large post count.

I'd argue that it's unreasonable to think that Nobuo Uematsu somehow lost his magic after VIII and before X.

I'm sorry if I'm being a little harsh, but it's wild, excessively ignorant viewpoints like these - which fail to meet a middle ground - which cause the downfalls in society.

So you wouldn't simply be a fanboy who's upset that someone insulted one of their favourite games then?

Good to know.

Unless things have changed around here without me knowing, people are allowed to post negative opinions as well as positive ones. Furthermore, you're the one who are trolling by not letting someone have an opinion that isn't the same as yours, and making posts with no substance which only contain "Troll itt:" (and also by bringing my postcount into it, which is completely irrelevant).

Let it go... Some people (a lot actually) don't think FF9 was a particularly strong addition to the series. Deal with it.

You could continue to argue, or you could do the mature thing and admit that people are allowed to have opinions which are contrary to your own.
