I've only ever played Final Fantasy VII, although I never did finish it all...

Am thinking about picking it up again off ebay or maybe even PSN to play through on the PSP. This is after looking through Chris [BEANS] old FF VII playthrough thread... (I hate him for this) :D

It's such a classic series that I figured I'd get Final Fantasy I off the bay, just to get back into some gaming on the PSP.
The reviews look solid enough and it'll all be new to me so I might as well...

The question though...
Is it worth playing through ALL the early Final Fantasy games?
VII is a no brainer and VIII looks solid aswell.
If I like I then I notice I can get a II remake on PSP also.

Has anyone here played through them all?
What would you say is your favourite in the series?

I'm just trying to go back in time and play through some of the games/series I've missed out on. This seemed like a good place to start!

Decided to avoid Zelda for the moment and started on Final Fantasy 1 for a short while this evening. I'm not exactly far but I already find it enjoyable game play.

I'd happened to watch the Final Fantasy retrospective on Gametrailers over the last couple of days, it really got me wanting to play them all... :| *note:Don't watch gametrailers stuff*
I do notice they have a Legend of Zelda retrospective... Think that needs to be watched tonight.

Taking in what people have said, the plan is...
Final Fantasy 1, then Final Fantasy VII and I'll give Final Fantasy X a go. Gives me an excuse to keep hold of the PS2.
Unfortunately, I think this may represent far more game hours than even my worst estimates. :D

6 looks to be a must play also from reviews... I still find that the graphics are more than acceptable on many of the 16bit games of this style.

There's far too many good old games around that I need to play. Saves paying loads for the new ones though!

Haha, just destroying the first boss after some unnecessary level grinding...
"I, Garland, will knock you all down"

Can't beat those kind of translations.

7, 8 and 9 are all on PSN if I remember right.

I'm loving 1 right now, just got the 2nd crystal yesterday. Life is infinitely easier with the canoe... :)
Hoping to have got it sorted by end of next week. I do want to move to the second one immediately after but I can imagine me playing through VII first...

With regards to FF1, an emulator just would not cut it.
Since I am old enough to have owned the NES near the end of its run, I can just about cope with the graphics and sound but... The PSP version is just great to look at, sound is decent and there's the added awesome of portability. (Although that seems to only extend to bed, desk, work)

I've got VII for the PSP also but I feel it won't seem as good on the small screen. Might still keep an eye on the bay for a PS1 copy.
Those cutscenes would be more at home on the big screen. :(

For a lot of the old games, emulators are the only way.

Bit of a revival on this thread, I'd put this game down for a good while, distracted by other games and life happenings...
Picked it up again tonight and worked through the Chaos Shrine, on to the end boss.

<insert rage>
As soon as I'd lost my Ninja who had been casting Saber on himself loads to bring each attack in at 900-1000HP ~15/20 minutes in, I knew life had just been made worse.
30 minutes of pain and dragged out suffering later, my parties demise.
He can heal for 9999HP!!!

I really thought I'd levelled myself up very well for this, but I feel I may have taken the wrong equipment.
Still haven't even started the second game as I need this out the way first.
Curse you Chaos!!! CURSE YOOOOOOOOUUU!

Sat down tonight with a cup of tea to finish the first game.
My last strategy was nothing short of retarded, using 1 decent attacker and an offensive spellcaster. Tonight's worked much better.
Using temper on both tanks each time but continually attacking, using no offensive spells and healing the party each turn, it was over in about 5 minutes... :D

Time to move to FF II...

I get confused by the numbering system, was 6 here, really number 4?
Noticed 4 is out on PSP now, it will probably be purchased once I'm through ff ii, gets quite good reviews.

So would you advise against getting the third one for the DS? (Think its DS, maybe GBA...)
Its another game that's on the list of "buy that if you see it for decent price" games.
