Is there any kind of rpg out there that has the same sort of turned based fighting and leveling up and going round the world map besides the very buggy FF7 and FF8.

FFVII with the RIVA graphics patch from about 8 years ago lol!!

alternatively i used to play some FF games on my pc.... but that was years ago! i play em all on my ps2 now:)

I can't get hardware mode to work with FF 7, applied XP patch.

I've not tried it with an X1900XT. As far as I know it works with the following:

Geforce cards (including 7 series)
X800\850 series
9xxx cards

The problem with the PC version on FFVII is the bugs which sometimes just randomly appear which prevent you from progressing, it's happened to me twice now with un-avoidable freezes after the rocket launch and in cutscenes at Nibelheim.

Has to be said I never encountered those, although I am aware of them.

I borrowed FF7 a couple of years ago and was appalled by the presentation, it's one of the most shameless console ports I've ever seen. The graphics/interface were so bad I gave up after around 20mins.

Obviously to people who have played it on console or had seen how bad it looks before might not be too offended but as a newcomer to the FF series it certainly didn't grab me.

As mentioned KOTOR has some good turn based fighting and levelling.

I already own all the final fantasys except 1, 2 3 and 12 but i would like one on the pc, cause my grandad is always on the consoles leaving me with with just playing on the pc.
I own ff7 for pc but cant get that to work as im not sure where u must put the xp patch to?
Ive just dl ff8 demo and that worked perfectly even the fmv came up so does that mean if i get the full version it would work on my pc.

EDIT: After all this time ive managed to get ff7 to work all i done was dl a movie patch and now its working :)

The graphics really were awful they hadn't been updated at all, 640x576 textures on a computer monitor don't look good.

Wasn't the music for final fantasy 7 (PC) in a poor format compared to the PS version?

Either way still the best game ever made! :)
