Well, after finding this gem hidden away along with an old playstation from release I thought I would visit my youth and have a quick blast.

After several days and around 80 hours of Gameplay I have finally completed this relic of a game once again and have enjoyed every last minute of it.

Since its completetion it has got me thinking... What if this was to be re-made, level and charactor perfect in full HD using the beautiful in game graphics found in games such as Bioshock.. Would this not be one of the best games ever created... again... ??

Yes there are a few things that I would change/add or even remove but the game as a whole would still stay intact to a near 100% fit of the original. I would however just love to experience gaming and story telling to a level as perfect as this once again in a newer title whilst at the same time experiencing some of the fantastic features and stunning visuals you experience today.

What games have you had a dabble with recently from back in the day and what would you give a change if given the opportunity??

I don't think it will live up to it's reputation if it's remade. It has lost it's novelty and what made the game great at the time were it's cuttin edge graphics with those in-game movie scenes. If it was re-made I think it would only appeal to existing fans and probably not worthwhile for Square-Enix.

Nearly every FF7 fan wishes for a remake, even the developers have hinted at it but they also said it would take a few years( could have been in development a few years already :p)

As for games i'd like to see remade....Without a doubt Resident Evil 2, added co-op would be nice also but would go through on my own first. If any games deserves a remake it's RE2. I would happily put my left testie in a vice for it......

Rumors have been abound with a remake of VII for years. That PS3 engine tech demo of it really stoked the fires and many people reckon the protracted development of XIII and XIII versus is because the main secret project is VII. In addition to the fact that all the Final Fantasies have been remade with two notable left to go - VI and VII. Arguably the two most famous games of the series.

If it's done right, it would remain virtually untouched, save for a few UI rejigs, translation corrections and bug fixes. Looking back, it is actually really remarkable how well VII was made in terms of customization, user choice and general open-endedness.

Any changes I would have personally made would be of convenience - a 'remove all materia from selected equipment' button for example.

If it's drastically changed, or 'modernized' it would fail straight away. This includes the soundtrack, the plot (the spin-offs must must must be ignored completely) and the gameplay (the ATB system should be exactly the same).

Basically the perfect remake should be the exact same game - but in 3D with modern graphics and all the proper fixes that should have been QA'd before the release of the original anyway.

I replayed Final Fantasy VII on my PSP a few months ago and still loved it, no matter how bad the graphics are, I even went as far as beating the Weapons, breeding a Gold Chocobo, getting KOTR and farming sources in the sunken sub to get all stats to 255 (which I didn't finish)

Things I would change in a remake would be better graphics (obviously) and slight menu changes like the ability to save some materia setups with weapons and more Chocoba racetracks at the Gold Saucer.

Best thing that could be done is just go over all the textures etc like gow collection and bundle ff7 8 and 9 in one package on blu ray it would be immense.

like this hasn't been discussed before lol

the only thing you can do to improve the game is upgrade the graphics, dont touch the gameplay or the storyline.

It may have been discussed before to a certain level but since playing this again I figured I would have a bash at reviving the discussion once again as lets face it.. its a fantastic game and a great conversation subject for those who have played and those who wish they had :P

bought this the other day on PSN, bearing in mind that my PS3 is only a week old, I'd say FF7 is getting more of my time than any of the titles i bought with the console.

would love a re-make, but please dont give the characters voices. being that the original was mainly text based, my imagination has given the characters their own distinct personalities and a re-make could ruin that entirely.

as with so many movies from my childhood that are being remade (and not one has been for the better) It would be a very difficult task to make the game again, no matter what it turned out like, it wont make everyone happy and could alienate a lot of the originals followers.

RE2 on the other hand, and bearing in mind what a great job capcom did with the remake of RE1 on the gamecube could well be amazing, and a great re-boot for the franchise after a fairly bland and totally fright free RE5.

After reading about it in a recent issue of GamesTM, I dug out my trusty old Mega Drive and 32X and played through Knuckles Chaotix. A very different but very enjoyable Sonic game.

Also had a blast on Road Rash 2 and Micro Machines 2 whilst I had it up and running.

I must say that RE2 was a fantastic game and deserves a remake all the same but is it really in the same sort of league as FFVII or would you say it is in an entirely different league but equally on par?

Im a bit stuck with how i would place it.

A remake would be awesome. But I'd like the addition of a New Game+ mode, and\or adding the options of Classic and New Age

Classic being just a updated version of the original.

New Age breaking the HP limits and Damage limit and increasing the difficulty of the enemies and last boss.

I think for many (myself included) FF7 was one of the first RPG's i had played, prior for me would maybe only have been zelda, and FF7 was a completely different experience entirely and seemed to have a lot more scope than the standard "save the princess" type of game i had played before.

RE2 was such a big leap from RE1, doing exactly what FF7 did by taking us out of the genre's typical scenario (Haunted house) and taking us somewhere different.

I place both games very close together in terms of nostalgia and find it difficult to seperate them, both games are the most enjoyable that ive played in their genre even after all these years.

There's rumours that they are making a remake for 2015 but there's also rumours that that's a lie.

So it's hard to say who to believe.

A remake would be awesome thou as this is a fantastic game. I wouldn't mind a remake of FF IX either but doubt it would ever happen :D

To be honest, as much as i personally enjoyed FF13, The reaction of a lot of people was it wasnt very good, they could do with going back and remaking them. From 6 onwards not just 7. Atleast then they already have the basis for what we all know and love when they recreate each one.

Resident Evil 2 is one of the other giants of the PS1 library, most people are perfectly comfortable with placing it alongside FFVII. It's one of the big five (in no order):

Metal Gear Solid
Gran Turismo
Final Fantasy VII
Resident Evil 2
Tekken 2

Note that all these games are still long-term series with massive roots to this day.

hey was this the one with the intro of the train hurtling around etc.. I seem to remember playing this, but I'm sure I only played about an hour and it got forgot about... Erm... Haven't played a Final Fantasy game since. I'm pretty sure this was the one I played on my PS1 so many years ago now.

now, resident evil 2 - now we're talking. Awesome game back in the day, would love a remake of this, keep the gameplay just up the graphics and tart it up etc...
