Final Fantasy, which one?

Well the latest one is XIII, some will say its good and some will say its bad, imo try it your self and see. Its very linear compared to previous games but the battle/combat system is good. You can probably pick it up cheap for either ps3 or 360 now

Edit: You could also try the ones on the ps2, X and X-2 or XII both also suppose to be good with XII having some weird different combat system.

Generally, the most popular of the PS2 onwards Final Fantasies is X. It's arguably the best too, but this is subjective!

XII plays like a MMORPG. I've never finished it, and didn't rate it, but it has it's supporters!

XIII is very linear (and a little bit dull tbh) for the first 20-25 hours. It gets better though, and after completion, you can easily put another 70+ hours in if you're a completist.

I would love to try XII i really wish my ps3 had ps2 emulation enabled on it. I do have a ps2 in storage somewhere but i know the game would look terrible on a HD screen making it hard to play.

I'm kind of in the same boat. My main reason for never having finished XII is the fact that the PS3 came out a month after the game. I couldn't be bothered starting again, and never got around to transferring my saves to the PS3. X years later, I no longer have a 60gb PS3, or a PS2 :/

FF8- never finished it but supposedly good.

FF9 was just fantastic, i played it twice on ps1 then again on pc (emulator), then on psp 2 times and now have it on ps3 too.

FF10 was a landmark title for ps2 and was great but ruined by the dreadful FFx-2.

FF12 was a masterpiece, it played like a proper RPG with real time battles and required strategy in fights. Stretched ps2 to its limits. I played the game on my PC with PCSX2 emulator and with high resolution and anisotropic filtering it looked great. This is a long game with a lot to do.

FF13 looked great but personally felt a little short changed as the above poster said that the real game starts 20-25 hours into it. A lot to do after you finish storyline but felt linear throughout, couple this with some of the most annoying voice overs of characters and an awkward story, it was not the best ff. Visuals however are great but the game did not warranted a repeat replay on my part.

FF13-2 is coming out which i have no idea why. Did not need to carry in my opinion.

FF versus 13 is something im eagerly awaiting for. Looks great.

Now back to OP question :D. I would recommend that you play 9 as it was my favorite and want people to agree with me on this :p.

then 10 and 12 and then 13, skip X-2 which was rubbish.

I recently played through FF XII on my 37" Panny using a component cable and it looked ok :D

Play it on the pc emulator (PCSX2), it worked absolutely fine on my pc. Played and completed 100% with no problems whatsoever. The graphics look really great with filtering.

Edit: Youtube the emulator and you can see how good it looks.

If you liked 7 then play 8 next! Available from the PSN if you have a PS3. I'm playing through it again now, awesome game. Also finished 10 and 13, not quite up to 7 and 8 but both still very good. After 8 I'm going to play 9 myself, never played it back in the day but heard good things. Got the guide book here ready :)

No-one here fans of the 2D games?

I highly recommend you try FFVI, if you're not purely in it for the visuals this is a fantastic game! The best of the 'Traditional' imo. Though I thought FFIV was good too :)

Any of you that love FF9 should also give these a go, 9 went back to these roots gameplay wise but with PS1 visuals.

If you're looking for something a bit different FF-Tactics on PSP is highly addictive and has a surprisingly developed story. I keep meaning to go back and re-play it.
