Never finished XIII, my save is just before the last boss and I never felt I could be bothered to actually turn on the console and see how the game finished.
I quite enjoyed XIII and I did everything there was to do in the game, but it's not a game that I will ever be able to go back to and play again. The first 10 chapters are really linear and boring, the story and characters are also quite dull, but as soon as I got down to Pulse in chapter 11 I loved every moment of it from then on.
I will give XIII-2 a chance but I'm not picking it up on launch unless there is nothing else to play at the time, but looking at November this year there is going to be plenty of games to spill over into the first half of next year.

Halo CE Anniversary
W40k Space Marine
Saints Row 3
Resistance 3
Uncharted 3 (got 1 & 2 sat here waiting to be played too)

I will give XIII-2 a chance but I'm not picking it up on launch unless there is nothing else to play at the time, but looking at November this year there is going to be plenty of games to spill over into the first half of next year.

They shouldn't have even announced Versus as early as they did to be honest.
I think the main reason XIII-2 is getting made is because they cut so much content from XIII and that was enough to make a sequel so they did it as a quick cash in, which they need after FF14 being a complete failure.

FFXIII-2 is certainly sounding like a better version of what FFX-2 did as a sequel with the way the game is designed.
Multiple endings, New Game+, better dialogue and mission options etc.

Yeah that's the problem when they also have multiple teams working on different projects at the same time. And XIII-2 would be quicker to develop since they can reuse the same assets of the previous game, similar to FFX-2 for FFX.
The few things that I read were cut from the original game were things like Lightning's House (Which was only a cutscene and not explorable) and more detail about Snow's friends, which funny enough they are now featured more in XIII-2.

They just need to cut the first 20 hours, make the villain better, add some cities, add minigames and most importantly add a Gold Saucer V2 with Chocobo racing
I echo all of the above.
In addition, I think this should be a game where the final boss is really hard to beat!
FF7 (had to be mentioned!) had Sepiroth as the final boss, but he was easy to beat with 4x materia and omni slash. Make the last boss a big challenge, so that you feel rewarded for beating it and saving the world!

...I'm guessing this just means you get an extra eidolons? Or is there something I dont know about the final fantasy XIII-2 game mechanics

I'm quite looking forward to this game. FFXIII was not an amazing game, but it was a decent game. Final Fantasy is a constantly changing franchise and there will always be ones certain people don't like. I hate FFX, my mate hates FFIX, anotherm ate hates FFXII and anotherh ates FFXIII but all like the rest.
They will probably never match the magic that was VII and VIII particularly (although i feel Verses XIII has potential).
I think XIII-2 looks like a better game than it's prequel, and although I wouldn't say i'm super excited to play it, i'm certainly anticipating it's release to see what it's like.
I wasn't overly keen on some of the characters though and the bad guys voice actor could have at least 'tried' to sound different to Nier!!!
I keep expecting him to say 'Yonah!!'

Guessing that they are just including one of the DLC packs if you buy from them (it's already been announced that there will be regular DLC for this).
It's quite expensive from Game though, considering Tesco are doing the limited collectors edition for £39.47 online.
