Just got announced, it's PS3 exclusive, and is online, looking like it could be an MMORPG.

FFXIII is a High Tech FF7 style game, this seems to have returned to the classic style:

If it doesn't turn out to be as grind heavy as FFXI (It's pretty much gotten the reputation of being Japan's own version of Korea's Lineage II), then I could give this one a go. I am slightly disappointed the 14th game will be an MMO though, but then it is also hard to see where else the series could go, especially after all this time waiting for XIII.

FFXI was the best MMO after WoW in my opinion, I am looking forward to this.

Not only that, but FFXI is avaliable for PS2, PC and Xbox 360 and so it has a broader range of platforms compared to any other MMO currently.

Least Square-Enix actually has the balls to put an MMO for console systems.

online..fail.

look at ff11.

It had over a million subscribers at one point, but that was a few years back so I don't know current figures.

I liked it for the most part, but there were a few things that bugged me. Stil, it was a resounding success for Square, and in terms of subscribers one of the top 5 MMO's ever.

EDIT
For perspective, an MMO needs approximately 50k to 200k subscribers to run a profit (largely depending on how much it costs to maintain of course, but most of them will need those figures). If sub numbers drop below those figures you can cut back on your servers and 'live team' and still be -relatively- comfortable.

This is the best news I have heard for a long time. :D

Final Fantasy XIV Online Official Site

Having played Final Fantasy XI Online, which I thought was an absolutely brilliant game, I am really, really looking forward to this and will defiantly be buying Final Fantasy XIV Online as soon as it's released.

Final Fantasy XIV Online will also be available on Windows. I honestly can't wait for this.

Sunscribtion Fees: TBA

As much as I love the Final Fantasy games I'm not going to feel like paying a subscription for a MMORPG if Sony can't sort out the random "8002A548: You have been signed out of Playstation Network" error.
