I understand that there are some of you who are playing the beta for this mmo, I was wondering, is this going to be the next big game in mmo's or is it just going to be for those hardcore jrpg nutheads?

Looking at screenies, it looks less asian than other jrpg's, that is, quite realistic scenery and characters not too cutesy with huge teardrop eyes. It definetely looks a lot more adult than final fantasy xi.

Ive just read that there will be a small additional fee every month for opening a new character slot, but apparently everyone is flexible and can work in different professions.

I understand if youre under NDA and cant reveal much or anything at all, but to those that are not in the beta, is this game going to distract you from WOW for a while, or will you give up WOW for this game.

Thanks guys

No the game wont be the next big WoW. It also wont fail bigtime like some MMOs have done. It will be as successful as FFXI, if not more so over the coming years.

The MMO market as it stands now has got this WoW obsession, whereas everything and anything needs to do things the way it does things. So when players come across something new and different they automatically think "OMG this is wrong!" and wrongly assume that its bad when its not at all. It just does things the way it wants to do them.

I've already enjoyed myself way more playing FFXIV beta than I have my entire time playing WoW and some of the western clones that followed it. Its very social, I've made lots of friends and we all started a linkshell together from closed beta.

If you enjoy a social MMO where exploring and playing with other people is your thing, then you'll enjoy FFXIV. However if you lock yourself away and want to solo and have everything handed to you for epic loot, then its not that way inclined (although it is still very solo friendly.)

It's quite divisive at the moment, see the main thread for the arguements.

Personally I am going to give it a good go I like the fact that it is different to the industry bogstandard wow model that every new MMO copies these days. It reminds me of earlier mmo games where the game won't hold your hand and tell you exactley what to do, when to do and where to do it. You need to switch on your brain. Unfortunately the majority of mmo'ers want spoon feeding these days as they are now so used to it.

In terms of playability it certainly has bugs but it's a new release, even long time mmo's have bugs it just something you have to live with with this genre if game. Are the bugs gamebreaking? No. The game works like a FF game. By that I mean it does it's own thing as SE always have done. Even as a fan if SE I find it somewhat annoying that they decide to reinvent the wheel for each new game they release and expect people to adapt. Personally though I treat this as a challenge, others will whine.

Biggest conplaints so far are that it is so high spec that a lot of people cannt run it. That's unfortunate but they have released a beautiful game so I can live with it. The other complaint is the UI and how it is poorly adapted across to pc playstyle from gamepad. The majority of the whining is the drama queens making a nuclear holocaust out of a panfire. Sure it's clunky, yes a gamepad is preferable but I played 90% of my beta time on keyboard/mouse and had no issues.

Will it become the top mmo? No chance.

Wow will always be the top mmo as it is easy, requires no real thought and is quick to pick up (you can run an instance and some rais in -30min)

will it be good? Remains to be seen but I would say yes. From what I have seen it will offer a challenging and interesting game which is unique from the bog standard games. Personally think it will end up with an average sized community but an average size community of good players.

Of course I could be completely wrong :p

And ff 11.1? Don't be daft. I played that and there are some similarities but just no.

quoted for winnability. I couldn't have said it better myself (and I did try :p)

Considering it's one of the only MMOs where you can actually move around fluidly I think they've got a point.

When something as fundamental as that is bad you just can't enjoy the game. Lotro has good movement as well.

There is no movement problems.

They have a set environment in which you can move. So does wow on a larger scale. So do all games.

Essentially you have proved his point by merely complaining that it is different from what is currently on offer.
