Looking to complete all the Final Fantasy's and was just wondering the best way to go about it?

FF - PSP
FFII - PSP
FFIII - DS
FFIV - DS
FFV - ??
FFVI - PS
FFVII - PS
FFVIII - PS
FFIX - PS
FFX - PS2
FFX-2 - PS2
FFXII - PS2

Is this the best way to go about it? I know some final fantasy's were re-released with different names making some the same game? Not sure exactly in what way though? Origins I think on the PS is actually I and II?

I've already completed VII many times and also X years ago. Currently around 20 hours into VIII, didn't like it much untill disc 2 but really getting into it now. Much prefferd the materia system in VII but slowly getting used to the draw/junction system of VIII. Already got 3 and 4 on DS and 6,7,8,9,10,12 on ps/2 so not many to get. Picking up a psp off the MM so thinking of getting 1 and 2 on there. Will also replay 7 on it :D

That some hefty game time you are going to have to put in there!

I myself haven't really got into the FF games, the stories and plots never get there hooks into me and I just find my mind wandering, end up not following it properly and just getting totally disinterested.

I was tempted to get the redone PSP versions of I and II - as I think if I started from the beginning I would get more into it - although I heard they aren't linked? Each game is its own story or something?

Yeah each game has it's own story and yep hell of a lot of gaming time :p

I have already done VII and X though and 20hrs into VIII so getting there! Will do IX next and VI before moving on to the older ones then finally X-2 and XII. Not sure what platform to get V on though? Think it's part of FF Anthology on the PS?

X-2 is crap, do not bother with.
XIII is like an offline XI.
X is good.
VII is the best.
VIII is almost as good as VII.
IX is good.

I would try play the older ones first (counting re-releases as when the re-release came out).
Just because the older ones may seem a bit simple/outdated now, but they are still top stuff.
The only game that came close to VII was VIII.

I bought VI on PS when it came out for a tenner in 2002, I really should play it!

I'm gonna advise you steer clear of X-2, it ruined X for me, utterly terrible game imo.

Never liked the look of it myself, was thinking of leaving it out but thought if I make the effort to play them all I may aswell include it?

Hmmm, i can see your point and i do think you should include all of the lesser final fantasies like FFXII which imo in terms of story is on par with X-2 (both are rather lacking). But the problem with X-2 is the fact that not only is it a weak point in the final fantasy series, but it also ruins what for me is one of the strongest titles in the lineup, it totally butchers a huge portion of the FFX characters, Yuna gets a particularly embarrassing makeover and Rikku goes from being cute to plain annoying.

I suggest you avoid it not because it's a bad game, but because it ruins one of the greatest games ever. Final Fantasy titles have worked so well as stand alone titles for a reason, i hope they don't revisit any of the other games (aside from FFVII, they seem to be doing the additions to the series while staying true to the characters).

[EDIT] Speaking of FFVII, you seem to have missed out crisis core in your list, that's a brilliant game on the PSP.

:D

How you finding FF1? I'm going to put another 10hrs or so into VIII today :)

Yeah just checking and FFV is part of FF Anthology for the PS (IV + V are part of the pack) So I'll get that for V and prob stick with IV on the DS.

You've gotta be kidding, X-2 wasn't even passable as a decent RPG game full stop. Where as FF12 was possibly a weak Final Fantasy, But still a cut above in the RPG Genre.

Meh, I enjoyed 12, and loved the new Battle system, Where a lot of hostility towards the game generally comes from.

I felt both had a very poor story, X-2s was annoying due to a silly premise and annoying characters, XII was annoying due to a non-existent premise and lifeless characters. The emotions i felt for the story were approximately equal for both titles - none.

That isn't to say i think XII as a WHOLE was as bad as X-2, the game play was a very good evolution for final fantasy and many of the optional side quests were brill, it's just the storyline that sucked.

I get where you're coming from in terms of Lifeless characters, They existed in a world. But didnt seem to belong to it. For instance in other Final Fantasy games, You could visit areas, and find people who actually knew you or a member of your party, or there would be some sort of connection to the world for a member of the party. Where as in FF12, The group you had adventuring seemed to be pretty isolated from any social aspect of the world.

Best thing for me about FF12 though was the hunting for items to make up weapons. It had a logic to it which I loved.
