A Few Weeks ago, i posted on which spec to go for,

after some advisement (people suggested qaudcore) i really did consider this, but i wanted a bit more futre proofing

im thinking of the getting the below spec
  • Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
  • 12GB (6x2GB)
  • 640GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
  • 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
  • ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB
  • Two 18x SuperDrives
  • Apple Mighty Mouse
  • Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (British) and User's Guide (English)
  • AppleCare Protection Plan for Mac Pro (w/or w/o Display) - Auto-enroll
one question though, Would the Wifi Card help Resale? i don't need one but was considering it for resaleablity

tbh i need the space,

music+videos are 300GB alone.. >< without my photo collection

i may get a ssd one i a years time.

Are you planning on buying the system with the 12gb ram? i know when i bought my previous gen 8core Macpro buying the ram from a 3rd party worked out much much cheaper.

..edit
Still the case, ~£240 for an upgrade from 6gb->12gb from Apple or ~£240 for the 6x2gb sticks from manufacturer, which would then let you sell the 6x1gb Apple memory off for a few quid. :)

Might as well throw in the WiFi card.

It seems strange to be mentioning minor resale considerations in the same post as saying you'll get an 8-core for future proofing.

well i thought when i do sell it in 3/4 years time. people would be less likey to buy it if it didnt have wifi already

if that makes sense?

Its easy as pie to fit (in this one anyway, I can see where the wires are!) and most likely be replaced by a new WiFi in a few years time.

WiFi cards on the bay go for pennies anyway, I have mine connected to an Airport Extreme and manage 60-70Mb/sec transfers using gigabit between it and a MBP.

I would say unless you can't wire it up, don't bother.
