Hey,

Firstly thanks for any advice offered,

I am just looking for a little advice on the final few pieces of the jigsaw.

Currently I have

Sandisk 128gb SSD - Operating system and 1/2 games
500gb HDD for the rest of the gunk
660GTX GPU
8gb memory 1800 corsair vengence

I will be wanting the following

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-294-CM&groupid=2362&catid=2231 < CM stryker full tower

I have chosen this case because everywhere i have read it has been highly rated but also i like the fact plenty of room for my fat fingers :)

So i would like some advice on the final pieces..

I need

MBU - Would like it to be fairly future proof (certainly 2/3 years) - But also i may go SLI in the future, today wont be that, but maybe in the future. - So ability to SLU The one i was looking at was the Gigabyte Sniper - But not sure with the rest.

CPU - Would like intel K series i dont mind paying the extra few quid for, who knows i might even overclock in the future

PSU - Would like it to be enough power to allow maybe SLI / possible overclock

For this (including the case) I have in the region of £600 +/- 10%

The main rig will be used for gaming, and want to be able to play on high / extreme graphics :)

Here we go:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £239.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard with *FREE COOLERMASTER SEIDON 120V COOLER £143.99
1 x Corsair Obsidian 750D Full Tower Case - Black (CC-9011035-WW) £138.98
1 x Seasonic G series 750w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £99.95
Total : £644.33 (includes shipping : £17.85).

You'll notice, no Stryker. Why you ask? Honestly, i think its hideous. Yes it has good airflow (like many other cases do) and it may have more feature than some, but the main thing the case does is look pretty; and that just doesn't..

The 750D is the perfect case.

The rest is pretty self explanatory, though it think the GTX 660 may need an upgrade.

Thanks for that :) I will have a peek at the case, but like they say "beauty is in eye of beholder" :)

But yep i bought the GPU at a sale price and wasn't going to do anything else on my current build, then as happens 1 thing leads to another , then next thing i need a full system build, so yep GPU will go, but at moment it will fulfil my needs

Very true, You're going to be the one looking at it after all.

I just never spec something i wouldn't buy myself in the same situation.

Fair enough, we've all done that.

Atleast the above gives you a good base to build on, Any GPU would thrive in that rig. :)

I know this isn't really the place, but more from hope I ask the next question :)

For the case (either yours or my recommended one) do you know of a retailer that has corner desks ;) . I would like to replace mine which i bought about 5 years ago when i had a Mid sized case and it could sit comfortably on the shelf :) But with only a clearance of 30cm this wont be big enough

So im looking for a corner unit that can have this beast of case underneath - but not on the floor I have rats who like tasting cables (they have already put shot to 2 PSUs in past) Really just hopeful request given volume of viewers on this forum.

The only units i can find are the straight ones, but these are no good due to the dimensions i have to play with in the spare room :)

Really just want big enough for the usual on the desk hardware 2 monitors etc

I did a desk mod the last time I had that issue, well actually moved to a flat in london with a box room so small my desk wouldn't fit and had to hack it about. Could you bolt a hanger on the side of your current desk?
Or do you actually not like your desk and want an excuse to change it :)

its the new pc new desk, might as well go whole hog lol

But interesting idea :) but the desk was bought when i had my pc downstairs in back part of living room - Then my eldest moved out and i took over her bedroom (box room about 6ft x 10ft) for me 'n ' my 2 rats lol so desk takes about 20-30% of the available floor space now :( but if in next 2 weeks i cant find a more suitable one, I might well consider your idea and get my old 'boys toys' out of the shed lol

Ok

Had a good look over last day or 2 at your list, and taken something on board, but it didn't include things like Win 7 / case costs, so had more time to browse around, take some things and look at others.

Bear in mind i have the following
Currently Own
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 660 FTW ACX 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (02G-P4-3063-KR) £149.99
1 x Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9) £74.99
1 x SanDisk Pulse 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - (SDSSDP-128G-G25) £67.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX) HDD £46.99
Total : £349.56 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Does adding the below work, and can you foresee any problems with things like size / configuration and fittings :)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £233.99
1 x Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI HERO Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £157.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-Bit - OEM (FQC-08289) £109.99
1 x NZXT Phantom Enthusiast USB3.0 Full Tower Case - Orange/Black £104.99
1 x Seasonic G series 750w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £99.95
1 x Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU Cooler - Orange £69.98
Total : £798.31 (includes shipping : £17.85).

PS if i have missed anything off like some obscure wires / maybe fans etc please let me know :)

Its a very big and expensive CPU cooler. If you want something like that size might be worth looking at the K2 as its cheaper, have to remember ram slots with cpu coolers like this though.

Or you could look at a small air cooler or a closed loop option.

I would go for something like this.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £239.99
1 x Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI HERO Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £157.99
1 x NZXT Phantom 530 Full Tower Gaming Case - Black £104.99
1 x Seasonic G series 750w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £99.95
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02733) £73.99
1 x Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler £49.99
Total : £748.32 (includes shipping : £17.85).

The case has a window so you can see your nice shiny hardware :)

As already mentioned, the K2 will do the same job as the Phanteks for less money.

The retail cpu has a 3 year warranty and is only a few quid more

Windows 7 Home Premium edition will allow up to 16GB of Ram which should be more than enough if you are only gaming.

awesome guys thanks, i will crack on going through the list, but at least one thing for sure its the 4770k lol :) and agreed on the home premium :) ... the rest ill have to now get on and do some reading :)

But, my reasoning behind the ROG is rewviews i was reading (guru3d) and the fact on board 7.1 sound is handy
I haven't looked at the Z87x because of the watercooling, its not something that i have considered yet, but i would to take a look, for eg is installing as easy as the 'instructions' state lol :) or do i have to do more work than they let on lol
