Final Preview of IE 9

Yeah but why has it taken so long ? as most people use Firefox , Chrome etc..

Most people actually use IE that is beyond doubt

Chrome's usage has slowed in latest figures but will no doubt rise again at some point.
Firefox is actually losing users since they are going over to the likes of Chrome. It's the technical people that usually switch browsers hence why when Chrome's market share went up, Firefox is going down.

The latest version of Mozilla Firefox DOES run on Microsoft Windows 2000 - and possibly on earlier versions of Windows for all I know.

The last few versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer do NOT run on Microsoft Windows 2000.

Crazy!

I know, you can only get IE6 installed on Win2000 and a lot of these are still in use.
Where I work we still have 3 computers with Win2000 that are in use everyday.

IE's grip is due to it's very successful business software and support. Despite a rise in freeware by some public administrations most large corporate and public bodies are still heavily involved with ie. Hence it's huge user base.

This website contains 519 new test cases bringing the total to 2138 tests that we developed within Microsoft as part of the IE9 project in support of several World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) web standards working groups as well as Ecma-262-5, Ecma International’s ECMAScript Fifth Edition specification (also known as ES5).

...

There are two tables below. The first table is a summary of the test results by specification with the August 2010 IE Platform Preview along each of the major shipping browsers running on Windows.

Crazy, indeed. Microsoft should still be developing software for 10+ year old operating systems. How in considerate of them to not spend time developing, testing that modern software will run on an OS which has had three new incarnations. Crazy!!!

I'd be amazed if it was that soon.
Just trying to recall when IE8 actually launched, it doesn't seem like that long ago.
Anyway HTML5 stuff out there, that would be good, sooner flash alternatives arrive the better, just need people to code with it in mind.

I stopped using IE8 because it kept forgetting my logins for forums such as this one. Unless that's fixed in IE9 I'll be sticking with Chrome.
