Final setup - how does it look?

ok i've just placed the final order with OCUK for the last few parts for my new machine (in fact almost the whole machine has been bought from OCUK  ) and as the spec list is now complete i thought i'd ask people with more overclocking experience than me (most everyone lol) what they thought about it. after the reading i've done here i'm pretty gutted that i didn't get an Core2Duo, but i can't complain really as a 5200+ athlon x2 is still a great prezzie so i didn't want to ask her to send it back and change it for a C2D. so with that said the specs are

Case : Thermaltake WinGo V8000a
PSU : Thermaltake Toughpower 750W Cable management
Mobo : Gigabyte GA_M59SLi-S5 (OCUK)
CPU : Athlon64 X2 5200+ AM2
Cooler : Tuniq Tower 120 (OCUK)
Ram : Team Xtreem 2GB (2 x 1GB) 800MHz CAS4 (OCUK)
GPU : Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800GTS (OCUK)
HDD : 2 x 250GB WD Caviar RE 16MB Cache in Raid 0 (OCUK)
Optical Drive1 : Sony AWG_170A
Optical Drive2 : Pioneer DVR111D

to round up the specs i also used Akasa rounded cables for the IDE and Floppy cables and also Akasa EL SATA Cables for the HDD's (also OCUK).

So what do you think of what i've chosen for my machine?, for an AM2 setup is there any screwups i've made in component choice, anything i should have got different (apart from a conroe lol)? if everything goes my way regarding the performance of the actual chips and parts i have in hand do you think i'll have any problems when i start to overclock it? cooling maybe, or PSU, Ram etc

thanks in advance for any opinions (good or bad :o ) or suggestions :)

Hello Harry, I was reading another thread and I saw you link this post so I thought I would pop in and see whats going on.

I've had a look through your spec but I am not familiar with some of it. I have highlighted the 'core' system above in yellow, this is the most important part of the spec, things like cases, optical drives and hard disks play more of a minor role (although still important but more down to personal taste.

Now comes the hard part of the post, as you probably now a lot of us on these forums are bonkers for hardware and fickle with it too, as much as I respect & appreciate AMD there current line of processors are not as compelling a buy as what INTEL is offering right now. You as a person building a system from scratch are in a great position, you literally get to cherry pick all the best stuff.

I am trying to tread carefully as I don't want to come across as if I am saying there is anything wrong with what u have ordered, it looks very good, in particular the nVidia 8800GTS  (lucky you!), and I sure in most situations you will be pleased (not sure what your used to using).

I would have tried to persuade you to go the Core 2 Duo path, I'm sure your aware that we are all made for it here, but I see you have already ordered your bits!

Question: how much was your budget? and is it too late to change your order? :D

thanks for the input wayne, the problem with it being an AMD setup is a tricky one. what happened was as i had said i would be building a new machine after the new year my missus decided that she'd go and buy me a processor for my main christmas prezzie, so she went into system properties and copied down what cpu i had in my current machine (which was an athlonxp 2400+). so when she went down to glasgow to do the christmas shopping she asked in the PC shop for the newest and fastest processor of the same type they had, so on christmas day i had a new athlon x2. now i'd have much prefered a core2duo as i know it's the best performing processor available but i have no easy way of changing it.

my budget was as much as it needed to be without going over the top (hence the cas4 team and not the cas3, GTS instead of GTX etc) but as i said above it's kinda impossible to change my order, unless OCUK would exchange the mobo and you know someone who'll give me close to what my missus paid for the CPU lol

If the mobos untouched then Im sure OCUK will give your money back. And the same goes for the CPU, if the packing is unbrocken then I see no reason why the store should not take it back. ( I think its Law, as long as you can prove it came from there)
