Ok, I think I have my final basket, the total is £993, and I think I have everything covered. Are there any serious issues with the proposed built, and anywhere the money could be spent better? Cheers for any help

What are your overall opinions on this? I also wouldnt mind a decent headset, if i were to get something like the Corsair HS1A,

Will the onboard sound card do it justice? Thanks again for any thoughts!

get the lite version of the case
change the mouse to mx518
cooler to CM Hyper 212+
and
CPU - i5 2500k = £169.99
Mobo - Asus P8P67 LE = £78.99

Ok, thanks for the suggestions, think I'm gonna stick with the advanced CM-690, its only £16 more, and has an extra fan as well as the other extras. Am gonna go for the samsung f3 1tb instead, the 2tb was a today only and has gone back up to £65.
Regarding the LE motherboard, I have read that the overclocking potential is not as good as the more expenive P8P67 models, and with that bundle its only £20 more.
Any particular reason you would pick the Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB?

And that mouse has been about for years, I remember having one back in the day! Is it still up to the standards of today, I dont mind paying for the g700, if it will keep me going for 4/5 years of good use!

Am also thinking I would love to spend a wee bit more for an SSD bootdrive, would a cheap low capacity one be worth it? If so any suggestions?

Total : £1,052.46 (includes shipping : £22.20).

64GB SSD for OS/apps/game or two.
The G500 is a decent mouse for money.
This RAM runs at 1600MHz, great value at the moment.
CM Hyper 212 is a bit better than the Arctic Cooling Freezer.
No reason to buy the bundle, CPU is retail so has 3 year warranty (presumably the bundle does at well). The lower end Asus boards haven't been that well received but the MSI are very popular.

Get a the Gelid Tranquillo CPU cooler, the freezer 7 is crap compared to newer CPU coolers around the same price.
Was going to add this but out of stock.

Any particular reason you would pick the Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB?

It has a higher frequency - faster - 1600MHz compared to the 1333Mhz, and there's only a few pounds in it.

As you're building a premium machine it makes sense to up the performance of the memory to match - for a small outlay.

The Gelid is a solid choice (and my personal favourite had it been in stock) as is the Hyper 212. You could also consider the Akasa Freedom Tower and the Corsair A50 both at ~£30. But oif money is tight then the Hyper 212 @ ~£20 is great bang for buck.

Ok, thanks for the suggestions, def something to think about, really want to get the ssd added in! Just regarding the on board sound, if I were to get some decent headphones, around £50 will the onboard sound of either the msi or Asus do it justice, or would a seperate sound card be required?
Prob gonna place my order tomorrow, so a day to get it finalised :-)

The onboard sound will more than likely be fine for a headset. If your not happy with it then add sound card in later. Onboard audio is very good, only a true audiophile/very expensive speakers would appreciate audio from a dedicated card.

Cool, and that psu you dropped down to, the be quiet pure power, the 530w in that current setup, is that pushing the upper limit of it, or is there much room for expansion with that card? I'm assuming there's no way it could handle another 6950 any point in the future? Sorry for picking your brains, but its been 10 years since I custom build a pc, so all your help is much appreciated!

No definitely won't handle another 6950, neither would the Antec 620W. You'd need a decent quality 750W minimum. Also neither of the boards (MSI P67 C45 or the Asus P8P67) will do Crossfire. This one will do Crossfire at X8/X8.

This is listed under the specs of the Mobo:
Supports ATI® Quad-GPU CrossFireX™ Technology

Does that mean its good to go if I want to add an extra GPU in the future?
Is this the correct gelid you are talking about? Seems to be in stock now, if its the correct one
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-001-GD

Would this be a decent 750w, seems a bit cheap?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-057-OC
or this one?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-116-AN

does the '80 plus bronze' mean that its up to good standard?
Just thinking might be better to spend a bit more now, rather than have to buy another PSU in a year or two if I want a second GPU

i would stick to dual gpu, as it will probably run at 8x 8x 4x/1x plus youll need an even bigger psu.

and for the psu, i think its OCZ's new line of psu as i can only find reviews about the gold rated "Z Series" and not the "ZS".

i would recommend the XFX 750w Core edition instead

for the effiency question, i cant really describe it but it just means it will save you more electricity than using a non 80 plus psu :D

Ok, so that xfx 750 will handle any future sli setups without problems?

Also can anyone clarify that the mobo in the bundle does support an sli configuration?

Motherboard in the bundle does NOT support SLI or "proper" Crossfire as I mentioned in post #11.

It will take dual cards but the bandwidth on the second card will be limited to x4. You want a motherboard that will do x8/x8 on both PCI-E x16 slots.

From Asus P8P67 spec page...
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (single at x16)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 * (max. at x4 mode [Black])
+1 for the XFX 750W PSU.

80 Bronze Plus refers to the efficiency of the power supply.

Well, I've placed my order! No going back now lol, ended up going for the following, slightly over my £1000 budget at £1080, and left out the mouse, will get one at a later date.
CPU intel i5 2500k
Mobo MSI P67A-GD53
GPU Radeon HD 6950 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 2048MB
HDD Samsung F3 1TB
SSD Crucial M4 64GB (boot drive, i know they're expensive but couldnt resist!)
RAM Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB
CASE Cooler Master CM-690 II Advanced Dominator Case
PSU Antec TruePower New Modular 750W
Optical OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA
CPU cooler Gelid Tranquillo
Mon LG 23" 3d ready 120hz
Keyboard sidewinder x4
2 extra 120mm fans

Got the large PSU for future dual GPU use, looking forward to it all getting here so I can get started on it! Thanks for the help in choosing the parts.

I'd get corsair vengeance, cas depending on budget, G500 mouse, which is great, up psu to 750W, and no ssd? Shame on u! :D

*EDIT*
sorry posted but didnt look at the last post, well done amending original build :D
