Hi, just specced this up, by using stulid's (many thanks, so helpful) spec and this week's offers to up the spec a little bit to £650.

I've gone for the locked 2500, as I won't be overclocking anytime soon and will probably change upto an i7 and a new mobo before this stage. Also gone for 12GB RAM for about £10.

Can anyone give me any pointers on anything I've missed out on? Don't need OS, KB or Mouse.

Thanks

PS. OCUK should really do student discount :p

Ok I've changed it around now.

Don't the i5's have built in GPUs now, so I can use the built in GPU to get the system running til the preorder card comes in?

Yes, but the motherboard you've picked won't be able to use it.

Damn. Looks like I'll have to build it and just wait then, suppose I could go for the GTX but if this is considerably better for the money I'll just wait. I'm not even gaming, just CAD with the occasional game.

It's a shame the mobo doesn't have an AGP board, I've got a 6800 lying around somewhere.

Won't the GTX860 be better for me due to CUDA anyway? If it's really worth the wait til the 5th then I'll just have to wait.

AGP, how quaint.

If you place an order with anything out of stock, or on pre-order, then OcUK usually will hold back your whole order until everything is in stock.

If everything else is in stock perhaps you should place a separate order for the GPU so that at least you can start building and just slot the GPU in when it arrives.

If you're using the free delivery option it isn't going to cost any more.

Yep, that's how long it was since I last messed around with my computers :p

I live nearby too, I'll be picking it up. I'd like to have the computer now so I can build and get it running how I like before I take it to uni. Would you wait for the ATI or get the nVidia? I've always had nvidia cards myself, don't have any experience of ATI on my own computer.

Ooooooooooo tough choices:p

flip a coin:D

haha stop it, I'm split in decisions of whether to buy it or not, and now I'm stuck on what graphics card to get! :p

Is the extra performance really worth it? Wish mobos still had damn onboard video, none of the CPU based rubbish only certain chipsets can utilise!

Well the anadtech comparision is a stock speed (675mhz core) GTX460 vs 6870 at stock.

That OCUK GTX460 (actually a MSI model) is running at 725mhz, the shader clock is higher also.

Think I'll just wait, it's only 7 days (ATI's due on the 5th).

Going to buy the rest and build it. If I try to start it, it'll just beep at me won't it, just to check everything's working ok without video?
