That look a good rig, USB3 is an option, I think they may become popular in the future, if you want to future-proof it for a while, I would change. But if something like that isn't a problem to you, go for the rig you have, it looks good.

do you plan to do a large overclock to 3.5-4 ghz

maybe consider going for the newer p55a mobos then u get 2 x usb3 and sata3, just a thought.

Which mobo would you recommend? Please ensure it is a good (budget) overclocker as I do plan on clocking it to 3.5-4.0 ghz. Thanks

I have GA-P55M-UD2 on i5 750 works fine.

Just make sure the CPU cooler does not cover the remaining 2 memory slots, as it did on mine (Freezer Pro 7). GA-P55M-UD2 is small board.

Also i'm using Corsair XMS3 memory 8GB, but it was only stable at 1066, should be 1333 speed.

wait until the 5830 is out, it should be within your budget and much faster than a 5770

How soon are we expecting this? I have a 7900gs ko which can keep me going for a few weeks if needs be

Ive read good reviews about the corsair, hope they overclock well.

Im going to go with the p55 as the usb3 doesnt really matter to me.

im torn between the gigabyte p55a -ud3 or p55a-ud3r only difference as far as i can tell is the ram speed and esata on ud3r

The xmas titan fenrir (the red one) is socket 1156 compat without having to buy the extra clip.

Here is another AMD based upgrade option:

Phenom II X4 955BE ~ £122

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-244-AM

The X4 955BE now shipping seem to be the newer C3 stepping with many doing around 3.9GHZ to 4.1GHZ

Asus M4A79XTD Evo ~ £86

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-366-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1481

This motherboard has an 8+2 phase VRM,VRM cooling, all solid capacitors and can do symmetrical Crossfire at PCI-E 2.0 8X

4GB 1600MHZ DDR3 ~ £83

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-026-PA&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir CPU Cooler ~ £33

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-008-TI

HD5850 1GB ~ £219

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-215-SP

OR

2XHD5770 1GB ~ £234

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-014-C3

Antec 300 ~ £43

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-101-AN

With the most expensive bits the build cost comes to around £601 excluding postage.

If you stick with one HD5770 1GB the total comes to around £484 excluding postage.

A pair of HD5770 1GB cards in Crossfire though challenges an HD5870:

The newer revision two coolers for the HD5770 are better and quieter:

Hi there

u could buy a asus usb3 and 6gb sata motherboard, I have ordered a ASUS*P7P55D*e*EVO*with plx support as the ASUS*P7P55D*e* do not support plx only the deluxe, pro and evo do.

What is plx
the PLX chip in all its glory. This chip essentially creates a secondary PCI-E Gen 2.0 16x lane in order to provide additional bandwidth to both S-ATA and USB 3.0. This is the reason that the native PCI-E 16x is left alone.

This board is special for a few different reasons. The first is that it supports both S-ATA 3.0 and USB 3.0, and with the PLX chip, it means that your primary graphics card will still run at PCI-E 16x this is one thing ASUS has over Gigabyte usb3 6gb sata motherboards

hope this help u

If you want to game at 1920x1200 with high settings, I would suggest sacrificing in other areas to make sure you get the 5850 (my preference*) or 2x5770. Cat-the-fith's build is, as usual, an excellent one.

*2x5770 will usually give a higher (but not by much) average FPS than the 5850, but the 5850 gives better scores in the all-important minimum FPS. Plus, you don't have to worry if a given game scales well in crossfire, or whether it supports it at all. And, it's now the cheaper option!
