i still dont know wether to go quad so if i was i would choose
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...aranteed to run at 3.00GHZ (1333FSB) - Retail

Looks good, but why not the Corsair HX power supply - I think they're the same price & they're modular so you can take the cables you that you don't need. I don't think the TX range are modular are they?

hmm just saw that !!
520 modular is same price and should be more than enough to power everything
also got 3 other hdds and dvd drive to power.

Do you already have a GPU?

If not then good luck gaming :P

Seriously though it looks OK, I have the same PSU and a p5q mobo and both have been superb.

Dual VS quad debate is a hot one to handle but general rule is if it's purely for gaming go for the higher clocked dual, and this is coming from a quad owner. Very nearly all the time when I tab out of games my system monitor widget shows that only 1 or 2 cores have been stressed.

thats kind of the answer i was looking for as i would be mainly gaming and browsing net watching films and occasional encoding of films.

ok pretty got my finger on button to confirm as long nothing has gone out of stock in past 20 mins !!!!

ok button pressed and order confirmed :)
will do build thread when everything comes and see what people think and can advice on overclocking.

thanks guys

Yeah, a lot of people will use encoding film as an argument for a quad, but unless you do a hell of a lot of it it's not really worth it. Plus with an ATI card and Avivo then the odd bit of video encoding will get eaten up on the GPU.

If I were buying now (core2 not I7) then I'd go dual over quad, I only have a quad because I managed to find a pre built system with it in for about £250 back when they were first released and incredibly expensive:

"What will be the Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz price to be released in January? Unfortunately, you will also have to make an effort because Intel priced it $851"
