Hello all. I’ve been browsing the forums for about a week now trying to finalise a parts list for a new build. I just want to double-check a couple of things before I order.

Most of the parts are from OCUK, but a couple are coming from competitors:

I use my PC primarily for gaming and video editing, hence the 8GB RAM and 3 hard disks. I usually have OS / programs on the first disk, games and source videos on the second and destination / other documents on the third.

The only things I am questioning in the above:
Are the Akasa LED fans relatively quiet, or should I be looking to get some Sharkoon Silent Eagle LED fans?
Should I go for Vista Home Premium and use the extra money to get 2 x 3870s instead of the GTS?
Any suggestions for a better hard drive arrangement?

Any other comments would be greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to replacing this three-year-old low budget computer. :D

Many thanks.

change PSU to a corsair HX620, it a good PSU and has a reputation of being quite and reliable

Agreed.

Then you're good to go!

Oh you may be able to save £2 on an OEM processor.

But then you forgot to add some Arctic Cooling MX-2. Or AS5 if you wish.

kasparsy looks like a waste of money when you can get free firewall/AV that are as good as, if not, better

also the ocuk 24"

Thanks, but the PC P&C gives me some extra headroom and has some great reviews. Having said that, the TX750 looks pretty good too. Hmm….

Oops. Cheers! :)

I have taken Kaspersky out, any recommendations for a replacement?
The OCUK monitor is incredibly tempting, but I need HDCP and a number of inputs so that I can hook up everything.

Kent Uni eh? I’m currently doing an industrial placement year (woo money! :D) as part of my Computer Systems Engineering course. What are you studying?

Looks fine to me.
Excellent. When I built my current PC, I picked a particularly troublesome motherboard which gave me all sorts of problems. I’d rather be safe than sorry this time round.

Here is my slightly revised spec. I have gone for the Sharkoon fans, swapped Ultimate for Home Premium and gone for the 2 x 3870s (drool).

Any final words of wisdom before I take the plunge? :D

You 'need' HDCP? Why? ok ok don't bother answering it'll only start a heated debate on whether or not anyone is using it yet :D

still saves a lot of cash!
