A few questions!

1. I'm keen to get as decent a display as possible, hence would like to go 4K. Is the screen ok and will it work ok with the GFX card? or am I just wasting money?

2. I'm getting a WD Red HDD, but will swap this with a HDD in my NAS. So will actually have a 2 year old 2tb WD Green in the system. I assume there shouldn't be any problems with reliability?

3. Is an AIO water cooler necessary? I won't be doing any overclocking. I assume it will be quieter then stock tho? Any opinions to stock or not?

4. Don't need a mouse hence none there!

Answers and suggestions much appreciated! As well as how to post the basket! :D

Thanks

Thanks for the replies, appreciate them.

Is there any major difference between the r950 and gfx 970? I've always used ATI/AMD so tend to stick with what I know!

The WD green is only going to be for storage, does it need to be faster? The SSD will have windows and programs on it?

I'm not interested in over clocking as I like things to be simple and minimal hassle!

Is there any major pros and cons to 1440p and 144hz 1080p?

How is the spec look other then that?

Thanks!

Yup I'm looking at the R9 290x. Is the benefit of the Nvidia just that its lower power/heat?

Hmm it's going to be tough to decide which screen! I'd probably be leaning towards 27" 1440p I think.

Glad to hear that the WD green won't be an issue, would 2 years in a NAS will mean the WD green mean reliability problems?

Any other suggestions on the rest of the spec?

Cheers!

wow, thanks for all the responses guys! Much appreciated!

I'll do some reading regarding the monitors, as well as trying to decide whether to go for the Nvidia or AMD!

I use a Microsoft Intellimouse explorer 3.0, which I've had for years but I've never found any other mouse as comfortable! I just have a old microsoft keyboard as well but I find it comfortable to use, hence trying to just get a slightly more modern version.

The other slight concern I have is that I am half tempted to get a laptop as I travel so much for a living. However I've never been a fan of laptops, especially as main machines. I think I still want a decent PC, and then can get a moderately fast laptop to take on trips with me!

I'll post again when I've choosen a monitor and gfx card and hopefully won't mess that up!

Thanks!

Right, I'm still struggling to decide what screen to go for. I decided that 27" is a little overkill and so to save a little cash I'm going to stick to 24". I like the idea of the Dell U2414H IPS, but am concerned about a lot of things I've read about the IPS glow. I play KSP and so have a black screen a lot of the time and will get very annoyed if its glowing all the time!

Any opinions on IPS screens?

Other then that I've decided to go with a GTX970, as a lot of you said it is a little faster and generally cooler and less power! Does it matter which brand to get? Or should I just go for the cheapest?

I see the new Gigabyte deal regarding the warranty, as such I guess I shouldn't go for the original bundle and go for a BLK motherboard? Any one in particular?

Thanks again!

Fair enough, I'll check out the bundle. Are all the motherboards pretty similar anyway?

Isn't PLS just another form of IPS? I'm looking for something 24" as I can't afford a 27"!

Ah I see, does PLS still have issues with glow on black screens?

I'm looking to spend around £200 on a screen, hence the Dell U2414 was high up the list (apart from the above concern!) I'd rather get a decent 24" then a budget 27". Also I thought for a 27" you needed at least 1440p to get a decent image quality? Wouldn't 1080p struggle a little?

I did consider the AOC G2460PQU as it seems to get good reviews and has 144hz. I'm just a little concerned at the image quality. I don't play a *huge* amount of games so don't need a totally games oriented screen either. I guess I'm stuck in the middle!!

Thanks, yea I was leaning towards an IPS for the image quality however I have read a lot and see quite a few pictures of IPS screens with nasty ips glow and bleed (I know they aren't the same) but they look awful on a black screen and as I said the one game I do play is KSP where there is obviously loads of black!

Good point with the DSR however I don't want to have to keep returning screens until I find one I like! I thought the Dell U2414H was supposed to be the best IPS you could get for £200? Most of the reviews seem to suggest that? I was getting ready to pull the trigger when I found all the photos of the bleed/glow and thats given me pause for thought!! :(
