Hi guys,

With advice from these forums, just about ready to get this stuff bought. Just wanted to check if there any obvious tweaks i should be looking at? Would be nice to get it closer to £700, either through a haswell i3 or a cheaper gfx card. Not sure which would be best? Or is it a case of suck it up and deal with £750. Don't think i really want to change any other parts

No aftermarket cooler, don't intend to overclock, but if it's too noisy will have to swap out

Any thoughts welcome.

Oh hi Craig, didn't know you were on the forums :)

Spec looks great! Is this the new gaming rig for your mum that you mentioned?

I can't believe you found me on here. Seriously, after the bebo incident and the police, I thought you would know to leave me alone. I see you're in America now but i'm pretty sure this is still in breach of the court order.

Tamzzy,

Thanks, very helpful. It's more of a 'probably' will never overclock TBH.... food for thought.

What about an i3? I see there are cheaper, faster clocked i3 haswells, would they be a better choice for gaming in the medium term with a view to upgrading in the future?

Sounds like we have a stalker around :)

Anyway..

I have that case, so i like to think i know what im talking about, so lets begin. :D

First of all, i wouldn't get an Asrock motherboard (not a great manufacturer IMO) this MSI board would be my choice (if your 100% on not Overclocking): http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-239-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2575

The case really needs a modular PSU, this is propably a good choice: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-117-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=2463

I wouldn't go with Tamzzy memory choice as its high profile which limits you with CPU cooler choice at a later date, this would be my choice (fit the colour scheme well too): http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-064-PA&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1387

The other choices are good, i'd certainly stick with the i5.. Even a non-k one is an absolute powerhouse. :)

Cheers for the response and first hand experience is good.

Glad to see you're not complaining about the case :-) It looks like a quality piece of kit.

Looking at gigabyte board purely because I've had one for a while and it hasn't caught fire, plus I really like their UK warranty if things do go wrong, tempted to swap gfx out for a gigabyte one actually.

I need to investigate the PSU then, I'm not sure if the CX series are seasonic made any more? I've heard so many mixed things about corsair of late, but I have an old corsair vx PSU, seasonic made, no complaints.

Both gone for much faster ram, guessing it's well worth the extra tenner or so?

I have no complaints about that case, it is amazing.. :)

Gigabytes UK warranty is good but i don't think its worth spending an extra £20 for a board with features you won't use (Overclocking features).

The motherboard catching fire is pretty rare so i wouldn't worry about, MSI are a great brand (though RMA is not UK).

I feel the same with the GPU, it's not worth spending the extra £30 (or so) just so its Gigabyte..

They aren't seasonic anymore, if you after something like that, this will be good, though expensive: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-180-AN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=2463

Or this Enermax is good: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-054-EN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=2432

Great, I figured it would be; the reviews are very positive!

Part of the reason for getting Haswell now is to avoid a dead socket as it were, I am concerned that buying a mobo which cannot over clock may lead to regrets in the future.

Fair point on spending extra for gigabyte though I guess, will have to think carefully about it.

That enermax PSU looks pretty damn awesome to be fair...!
