Making myself a new rig so I can play BF1 and similar FPS games at a reasonable frame rate.

Got a few ideas, so here goes...

Z370 Asrock i7 Professional Gaming Edition.

Corsair CMD16GX4M2B3466C16 Dominator Platinum DDR4 16 GB (2 x 8 GB ) 4000 MHz C19 XMP 2.0 Enthusiast Desktop Memory Kit with Dominator Airflow LED Fan Kit.

Cooler Master Hyper H411R Heatsink.

MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti AERO 8G 8 GB GDDR5 PCI Express Graphics Card.

FireCuda SSHD 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM + Free Assassins Creed.

LG 27" 27UD58 4K IPS Gaming Monitor

Intel-core-i7-8700k-s-1151-oem-coffee-lake-6-core-12-thread-37ghz-47ghz-turbo-12mb-cache-1200mhz-gpu

Crucial MX300 525GB M.2 SSD

Gonna try and save my Shark gaming case. See if I can get it all in there. All criticism welcome. What have I missed?

Saving such things as water cooling alone for now, knowing I can push the cpu/16GB ram with just air cooling alone (I think) from what I've read.

Dunno if that cpu cooler is going to fit in with all the rest of it. Anyone any thoughts on it? Would like a solid all copper heat sink, buts it's something I can upgrade to later if I can find one. If there's an all copper HS knocking about though for sub £60 notes, please write in and say so with a link.

Tried to balance my setup with a reasonable cost. There is better options available but I'm at the limit of what I can afford with the above, hence no 1080ti etc. Would like a 2.1 sound solution or a 5.1/7.1 kit if affordable.

Any thoughts on alternatives if any before I buy? Looking to put funds into this rig at the end of Feb.

Many thanks all

In my opinion you're overspending on the RAM - a good 3000mhz kit will be fast enough and you won't notice any real world difference between it and the 4000mhz kit.

Are you sure you want to go 4k? A 1080ti will struggle to give consistent framerates at that resolution let alone a 1070ti. Have you considered a good 1440p GSync monitor?

I'd also drop the SSHD in favour of a decent 7200rpm HDD, I can't see you'll notice a big enough difference to warrant the extra outlay.

The cooler will be fine, assuming the case is the mini ITX Sharkoon Shark Zone case.

What's your budget?
Well I'm trying to keep it under £1500, but I might have to ignore monitor costs in order to do it. I've a few SSD units I can recycle, and stuff like raid arrays and the likes are just going to have to wait. I'd like a mirrored array you see, but for now the MX300 will have to do on its own.

Some interesting ideas there. I see you've managed to go with the 1080ti yet keep it all under £1500 (or as near as damm it)

I wanna stay clear of the AMD processors though. I had one for my last build and never really got on with it. It's a personal preference thing I suppose. Some people really like them I know. Ta for the input. :p

no worries, next gen will leap frog coffeelake and then should start seeing Intel step up its game in IPC department hopefully :D

My basket at Overclockers UK:

There only seems to be about thirty quid in it so I figured I may aswell get the faster ram.

As for going 4K, your the second person to point out the same thing. It's something that needs considering. I honestly haven't been able to find an affordable GSync monitor. Their all £500+ unless you buy 24" or something and even then their £400. It seems to be that I need to rethink 4K though, opting for a 1440p as you suggest. will have to have another look at it. :)

Can you buy all except card? New cards should come out over the next 3 months.

Now is not a good time to buy a 1080ti if youre bothered about such things. It's a subjective thing.

I don't think GDDR6 will be out by then ?

Hmm not really researched it. But I'd expect something in 3 months to land.

Personally I wasted everyone's time on here and decided to wait. Was ready for a big build but just went for a new monitor.

Glad I did. Crippled chips, ludicrous ram prices and gfx card nearing refrshed. I'm waiting out, but I don't NEED a new PC
..so...

Get a better/bigger air cooler if you're intending to clock. Considering your spend on the rest of the components, it seems a bit crazy not to get something with a bit more beef.

A decent air cooler will par with the entry level AIO coolers.

Was looking at below for a monitor option:
