Rep. of Ireland!
Hey guys, so I put up a thread for a build and got some really good advice from people, did a lot of research (about a full week!) and decided to go way over budget and just build a beast!

My biggest concern is that I came across issues with the Ivybridge CPU's heating and abaility to heat reduce. Because of that I think I will stay clear of the i7-3770k and get a i7-2700k instead as it seems to be the same performance but just a bit bigger. Could you guys lemme know if that's the right move? I think I won't be able to run Dx 11, am I right? Is that really a big deal?
Is the heat really a big deal? I do want it to last a few years but I think 4~4.2Ghz will be my top aim for an O,c.
Please help me out guys, this has been tearing my brain apart for at least 4 days!
Also, any case suggestions around the same price would be nice. MAJOR THANKS!!

Here is what I'm thinking (feel free to lemme know if I'm overspending somewhere, or if I could get something better for the same(ish) price!;

So the major question really is, would that heatsink do an Ivy?
or play it safe, give up Dx 11? Cos the range is just boggling!
A scan through for any improvements would be highly welcome!
Cheers again guys!

At first look I cannot see anything that screams "fail".

The K2 is used in OCUK built systems with the 3770k overclocked to 4.6, so should be ok.

If it's just for gamimg you could drop the 3770k for a 3570k.

As for the DX11 thing, pretty sure thats not a cpu limiting thing as you specified a 7950, which is a dx11.1 card.

Overall looks to be ok, but there are others on here much more qualified than me to make that call.

The ivy vs sandy overclocking thing is a mute point, yes sandy will clock higher but ivy is faster at the same MHz, this means that in the same system a 3770K and a 2700K will both give pretty much equal performance when you clock them as far as you can go.

I.E say the sandy maxes out at 4.7GHz and the ivy at 4.5GHz, that's ~ the same performance as ivy has more performance per MHz.

*EDIT*

If oyur only aiming for 4-4.2GHz then the 3770K is a much better choice than the 2700K.

I assume you are planning to go crossfire in the future ? If so then the board above will be better suited.

Changed the power supply to the modular version to help keep the case tidy.

Changed the ram for a cheaper kit.

I agree with you on the motherboard and PSU, though Teamgroup RAM is a budget option. I think the Geil is better, though the colour is off-putting.

I'd also ditch the sound card, on-board sound is great and not far off what that card would provide.
