This really does look like a cracking deceive, I wonder if OcUk are going to get any in?

Very light weight, small form factor, IPS wide angle screen, mini HDMI port, decent battery life, this honestly looks like the first real iPad alternative imo.

Anyone else temped by one of these?

I guess it was put there for the OS more than anything, but I would agree its more a notebook replacement than a mobile phone. I only really linked for the Video's contained in the post.

But it's just not an iPad though is it, and all you'll hear is

"So is it like a cheap iPad or something then?"

I don't quite understand, your saying no one should buy anything other than an Ipad because people might think it's a cheaper alternative to one?

Do you base all your purchases on what other people might think about it?

He probably doesn't, but lots of people have heard of ipad, whilst most people think Transformers are just robots in disguise.

Therefore, every conversation will start with...

"Is that a new Ipad?"
"No, it's a Asus Transformer"
"A robot in disguise??"
"No, a tablet that's more useful than an ipad"
"Oh, you couldn't afford a real ipad then..."

Which leads to several minutes of explaining why the Asus is better than an Ipad, probably involving specifications, flash usage etc.

I see that, it really shouldn't put people off purchasing something they want tho, else the situation will just get worse and worse.

At least with the Vega I can say, 'yes, it is a cheap ipad alternative, but it's actually pretty good for half the price'.

On topic more, does this have any usb sockets on the actual tablet part? I've heard it hasn't and you have to use the keyboard part, which would be a bit annoying.

How utterly ridiculous.

"Is that a Ferrari"
"No, a BMW"
"A Black Mans Willy??"
"No, a car that's more useful than an Ferrari"
"Oh, you couldn't afford a real car then..."

:p

No USB sockets on the tablet section, only a proprietary connector (for dock connection and tablet charging/PC sync without the dock, there's also a spare one on the keyboard dock too) HDMI 1.3a, 3.5mm jack and a Micro SD card slot.

Personally, I can't see any issues with that (no USB charging?) but if your looking to use it more as a tablet than netbook best get the iPad 2 or Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Yes, I wouldn't be toooo worried about the lack of usb, just means no 3g/gps sticks for on the go, no portable film storage when you don't want to take the keyboard part and stuff.

If a Ferrari was the only car most people knew by sight, and if the BMW looked like a Ferrari, then I guess your analogy would work. Otherwise it's a FAIL

And yes, the Vega is a bargain. 90% of the Ipad for 50% of the price.

I went through this in the office when I got the HTC Orbit 2 years ago. I have always had HTC phones ever since the first windows-based mobile.

Almost everyone asked if it was an iphone. I explained it wasn't, as the iphone is just too locked down, and this gives me so much more flexibility. Recently I showed them my dual booting HTC HD2 that runs Windows 6.5 and Android.

When I had the Orbit I was the only one in the office with a HTC, and now we have twice as many HTC users than iphone. I usually get asked for the low-down on the latest models when it's upgrade/new contract time.

People don't want to be sheep, and often just need to have their eyes opened to what's out there.

I'm now being asked about tablets, and most are holding off waiting for me to make the first purchase :D

i really like that i have had my 16gb ipad since november and i love it apps are great on the huge screen and its always a conversation starter only bad thing about it is the constant finger prints and battery life im lucky to get 8 hours out of it maybe because i use it daily i have reduced the battery life myself i have to charge it everynight or it will die half way through the next day. This looks like a great alternative any one thinking about getting an ipad this is defo worth considering
