There is also 4gb of Geil PC26400C5 800mhz ram on order whilst I have a 580w Hiper PSU (I know, I know) coming out of my old machine aswell as a reliable Akasa EVO 120 cpu cooler.

I'll be using it mainly for gaming and watching hi-def movies.

I've gone a little over budget but hope it'll be worth it.

Thoughts?

*Oh yeah, have Vista Ultimate 64bit waiting to be installed to my 500gb HD too.

Nice spec although you did'nt need the cooler as the card you picked already has a good third party cooler fitted.

Ditch the Hiper at the earliest opportunity though. ;)

Are they really that unreliable?

The Hiper PSU's I mean?

*Oh yeah, I've listed the wrong graphic card there. Its the one with the stock cooler I've bought.

Bloody hell!

I mentioned in another thread that my PSU is actually a replacement model sent from Hiper themselves.

The original one just stopped working. Luckily it didn't do any harm to the rest of my old PC.

I wasn't aware of the scale of the problem though

Oh Yes. The Hipers are legendary. I had one literally blow up (smoke, flames, change of undies) and take out a 2 week old motherboard.

Oh man. I'm going to be on the dog food until Christmas now that it looks like I'll be needing a new PSU

I know this isn't the correct folder but could anybody make a recommendation taking into account the machine I have specced at the top of the page?

Thanks.

Everyone is going to say Corsair but i am going to be different. Zalman ZM600-HP Heatpipe Cooled 600W Modular PSU is a damn good psu. I have the 750w version and it is the best psu i have ever owned. Totally silent, efficient, strong rails and an excellent choice of modular cables.

I guess everyone says Corsair because they are a good bet - they choose good PSU's to assemble and badge as their own! :p But can't argue too much with that Zalman - looks very good, and I have confidence in their products :)

Btw, if nobody else has said so yet you best change that Hiper PSU ASAP ;)

Thanks for the advice/recommendation folks. I'm quite happy with what I've got but I reckon I will get a new PSU.

One thing I'd like to know however is what difference is there between atx and atx 2.2 power supply?

And will there be any possible hiccups depending on which I go for taking into account the machine I've bought?

Basically all the power supplies on the market are ATX2.2. It is just a revision. I wouldn't worry about it.

As for the rest of your build, I would change the processor to a Q6600, apart from that, it looks good.

Ok I would have said Corsair but just to be different get a PC P & C one!!! (actually really like these PSU's, think I might stick one in my next system over a corsair)
