Wow... what a steaming pile it was, too!

Such a great graphics engine wrapped around such a poor game.

There were so many things wrong with the gameplay and then, to cap it all, when you finally finish it, you are left with page after page of credits that you can't skip!

The first hour or so of play were great but after that you've seen it all and there's little point unlocking any further weapons. I just kept hoping the game would get better... but it didn't!

Finished.
Uninstalled.
Won't be touching Far Cry 3 (if there is one) with a bargepole!

Now, on to Fallout III :)

My opinion may be biased, but there is nothing wrong with credits you can't skip. People put years of their life into the game and it doesn't really hurt you all that much to have to sit through a few minutes in order to get back to the main screen :O.

Haven't actually played Far Cry 2, but it got mixed reactions from my friends at work. Seemed better on PC than on the 360.

Nope, when I pay for a game I don't expect to have to sit through unskippable credits. The people who worked on the game were paid for their time, I'm not paid for sitting in front of the credits!

Anyway, a relatively moot point as I just tabbed out and killed the application... no idea if there was anything post-credits and, frankly, don't care!

Annoying how much FC2 has actually annoyed me! :)

Glad that you even managed to bother and finish Far Cry 2. After the first few missions, I instantly just gave up and uninstalled it off my computer. Its just as you said, really pretty looking graphics, but that is it. The gameplay itself is so boring. Only use I see this game has is for the benchmarking tool.

I played it for a short while, burned some bushes and got a bit bored of it after that, it just seemed so meh

Nothing at all compelled me to play it further.

I thought about starting this very thread a couple of weeks ago because I have also just finished it. I agree with you 100 % You see everything the game has to offer within the first hour of playing. I played it till about 67% and then decided I was too far gone to just give up so kept on till I had finished it. Towards the end I was only playing in 20 minute stints because it was that boring.

It is incredibly dull. Why did you bother finishing it if you didn't like it?

Well, I got it the same day as Fallout 3 and decided I wouldn't install both at the same time, so I picked FC3 to play through first (not realise how long a game it is, let alone how bad it is) and have stuck to that decision... it felt *so* good to tab out and kill the application during the unskippable credits and then uninstall the POS! :)

I played half way through it, up to a little bit after you get onto the second map. Amazing graphics, combat was fun, but the actual gameplay..........dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull......sorry, did I say it was dull?

I'd heard the 2nd map was better

It is exactly the same as the first map!

So, annoying FC2 "features":

  • brand new guns jamming and breaking so quickly - after 20 shots in the case of the dart rifle!
  • tiny ammo capacity, even with upgrades - 8 shots for the dart rifle, 30 for sniper gun!
  • stupid load outs - can't take sniper rifle and an assault rifle unless you opt for the dart rifle, which has 8 shots and breaks on 20 shots!
  • respawning guard camps even after 'unlocking' them
  • the hidden diamonds - started off collecting them thinking I needed the cash but had 200+ spare at the end as there's nothing worth buying!
  • useless 'stealth' - buy the ghillie suit and the silent weapons and everyone still knows where you are!
  • the whole malaria thing!
  • absolutely pathetic final quest branch
  • unskippable credits
There, hopefully that's got FC2 out of my system!

I just hope Fallout 3 is better :)
