I tripped over this forum about a month ago (didnt even knew it existed at the bottom of the index) and after looking at countless pictures and camera threads i went out today and bought myself a Nikon D50. Last time i used an SLR was when i was 9 years old in photography class and i wasn't bad but boy had i lost the knowledge. Got it out charged it up and went snapping in the garden and on my unsuspecting brother and this is what i got.

I think you made the right choice :) I do like the photograph of the boy. Its composed well and is illumiated rightly with no harsh light.

Agreed! Lovely colours on all the images :)

Good choice Boycie :)
I like the first photo. I think you need to crop it tighter from the bottom and the top (frames are distracting) and adjust levels.
Hope you dont mind.

Awsome thanks guys, i'm really pleased with the camera, couldn't of hoped for anything better really. Tried out the Canon 350D but i found it too small for my masculine hands :D . I would like to set up a home studio at some point got a spare room going so i'll see if i can pry it off the parents  Does anyone else here do studio photography?

Thanks

Luke

P.S. thanks Zheka great edit

Flowers!! What is it with new photographers and flowers? Even I took flower macros when I got my Canon A70. Makes no sense now :) Annnnnyway, the portrait shot is very nice. Stick to that, not flowers :)

I just needed 'something interesting' to take photos of, there was only so many shots i could take of my brother and i've got no pets so flowers was the obvious subject.

Off to Malaysia on the 6th of August so it will give me a chance to stretch its legs. Luckily my dads office is on 64th floor of one of the twin towers :D should make for some good shots. Also taking a trip into the highlands outside kuala lumpur and drive over to the east coast so plenty of photo opportunities.

On second thoughts, nah just stick to flowers ;)

Does the photo forum go on meets at all? Just curious because i would like to be with others who share a passion for photography, also a great way to gain more knowledge.
