okay, after a long while i finally have enough money for and xbox360 and a bit more

the only real issue i have with this is my monitor and speakers, and whether it's worth upgrading them, because i have a generic 17inch monitor from 'targer visionary' (some european import) and some 2.0 stereo speakers

i was just wondering if this setup is good enough, the image quality of the screen is fine for me on pc gaming, but i dont have a kvm type switch for the speakers (going on the assumption they give you a 3.5mm adapter with the 360vga cable)

if not i can get together a few hundred pounds for monitor upgrade... something i could use with my pc aswell hopefully... so wondering if it's worth it to find a cheap second hand 20-26 inch widescreen monitor (upto say £400) and another sound setup for seperate speakers for xbox?

I'd stick with what you have and save up for something like a 26" LCD TV.
Just try your 360 out with what you have and see how you go, you can always compare it to one of the ones in the pods for quality.

Depends on what will make you happy.

You could grab a 23" LCD TVT for about 450, maybe a little cheaper.

The other option is a monitor, currently I am running my 360 thru a phillips 20" widescreen monitor. It is pretty awesome TBH, I run in 1366x768, using a VGA cable and the option "fill" on the monitor., Works a treat, no borders or anything.

For sound, I have it hooked up to my stero (so really, its only 2 channel) and it makes me a pretty happy camper.

you should be okay.

i bought a 360 yesterday and i've got it on the standard 21" TV in my room and its fine...although i just hooked up my logitech z5500s and it got a whole lot better with 5.1 in PGR3 so maybe you should look at surround sound and a new display for the future, but for now just go ahead and get a 360...
at the end of *** day you can get blown away by the gaming on a normal TV, then when you get a new one it'll just get even better and renew the buzz :D

okay, thanks for the replies, i'll be sticking with this monitor for a while then

but... is there a type of 3.5mm switch on the market i can purchase so i dont have to change the speakers from pc to xbox each time i use the other?

edit: or could it be possible to just plug both into the speakers using the y-routers for 3.5mm jacks

I know a few people here bought a Creative product which will take PC audio 3.5mm Jacks and Optical cables.

I would seriously recommend getting a cheap 5.1 setup such as the Logitech Z5500's and a Widescreen PC monitor w/ a KVM (I use the D-Link 4 port) and haven't had a problem.

You can use Y splitters if you don't want to upgrade the speakers yet.
It will however play any sounds going in so if your PC is playing an MP3 and your 360 is in a game you'll get both sounds.
You can buy switch boxes from high street electronic component suppliers as well.

okay thanks again for the replies

i'm space limited by a 5.1 setup so best i can do is a good 2.1, and will try to upgrade to whatever seems best in *** future for a monitor (with lcd prices falling considerably in the near future)
