Finally getting it!

Am a newbie in the photography world, and have had my 400D for a week or two now. After taking over 200 shots with the kit lens, I finally managed to get 2 today which I am really happy about.
Please feel free to give me some C+C.

haha, I was actually in an eco park.
I like these, not because I thought they were interesting, but just the sharpness and the colours are of a standard I was expecting from a DSLR.

Personally I would have cropped the top image to get rid of the distracting bars running vertically through the image. Otherwise, not a bad start to a hobby that can consume hours and hours of your time! Enjoy...

I personally find those bars to distracting, but I can see the image you were going for, nice colours and DoF on this one.

Crop it down so it's portrait and not landscape and you'll have a nice shot there

it would take a fair bit of time to do, but it should be possible to remove those bars in photoshop

just went for a crop at the same aspect ratio as the original through the bars/wire. imo a landscape is always better than a portrait for lower lying flowers

edit: oh, and rule of thirds
