Hiya guys

Right my pc froze a few weeks ago
then wouldnt boot
then would get to bios and freeze
then no video

So installed my old old ati card
still nothing ok changd PSU

great pc booted and has run like that for weeks
Then a couple of days ago back doing then same thing

So changed back to my hx620 still nothing
so took out my 4th set of ballistix and installed my 3 yr old cheapo corsair select and pc boots up as normal working and has been ok since( well a little slower but not stopped)

So can someone recommend me so decent ram I'm considering DDR3 or should i stick to some DDR2 but get some 8500 I had my e6600 running at 3.4 for everyday use before the last sticks were changed so I will be clocking.

Not knocking there RMA process but come on Crucial only getting a few months out of the sticks

Depends on your gfx card aswell
afaik if you have for eg a 8800GT 512mb

then xp will recognize 3.5 gig as 0.5 gig is coming from the graphics card

go for the 4 gig in my opinion

If your really tired of Ballistix, id avoid all micron based sticks (im not sure what chips are used on the previously linked), maybe something like the G-skill F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK - im running mine 1144mhz 5-5-5-15-24 @2.0v it also ran happily at ~900mhz 4-4-3-12 2.1v

Sort of related to this thread, so I'll put it here. I'm planning a new build soon, and was wondering about this G.Skill memory: linkeh

I've not used G.Skill before, but for a 4 gig set that runs at 4-4-4-12, that looks pretty good. Any comments?

Cheers!

Ditto, just going to rma 4gb of tracers, less than 3 weeks old, never overclocked, and failing memtest. It's a ******* joke tbh.

Before you do run memtest at differant voltages

I thought i found the sweet spot on mine at 2.1v It was failing memtest at anything lower.

I wish i hadnt bought ballistix I was running my corsair value select 1:1 with my cpu at 3.4 ghz
I could RMA these then sell the unopened box or try and get an exchange

Hmmm, you guys aren't filling me with a lot of confidence over the Ballistix Tracers. I just bought a new set of 2x2Gb PC6400. Never had a problem with crucial ram before.

can't fault their RMA just wish I'd never had to use it.
They can't all be bad or they would go bust.

When I got my last set I ran memtest at 1.8 1.9 2.0 and 2.1 and at 2.1 it did 40 odd passes so i left it at that

I just want some that last
However they are crackin when they work
