I've been after something quick for years.... See some of my older posts in the forums but never really had the money to get the right car.

I have a friend who deals in salvage motors. Not a good start I know but I think I've done ok.

2008 ford focus ST3, 35k miles, facelift in sea grey £7500

When I first saw it was a write off, literally, front end smash dual airbag deployment.

Now it's like new all tested and inspected and the cat D write off removed or whatever they do once its passed inspection.

I pick it up in about a week so pics to follow.

Good deal or not?

Entirely depends on the repair job, it may look good but I'd have a mechanic check it over, it certainly wouldn't be cheap to repair it back to perfect.

i thought they stopped the testing to remove the cat thing years ago

i remember an awesome christmas eve driving out to a place called Popplewells, but i was about 12!

Unless I'm mistaken, once a car has been written off (category D, C, whatever) it cannot be un-written off?

When people HPI check the vehicle it will come up as Cat D or something like 'approved repair'. So when you sell it people will still know vehicle was accident damaged.

I'm planning on keeping it for a good few years so it won't be an issue when I come to sell it.... I know he would have it back too if necessary.

I can't find many straight cars for less than 10k on autotrader with the same miles and spec.

My honest advice is to get something that isn't on the register
£10k can net you some brilliant cars.

Even half that can get you something decent.
Don't waste your time with crashed vehicles. Their histories are going to be patchy regardless of you knowing the guy, and it will be a nightmare to sell.

Quick google.... It gets listed as cat d 'inspected'

I'm more than happy having seen What's been done to it beginning to end. If I sell it ill likely sell it back to him in part ex for something in the future. It's the top of my budget but its exactly what I want.

I'm not the most experienced in buying and selling cars as you can probably tell. Any one with experience in general issues with the st?

No, it doesn't. Cat D cars do not get a VIC inspection.

So you've stretched your budget to buy a potentially expensive car for loads less than its worth because it's been smashed up?

This sounds like it has disaster written all over it.

That is not a bargain? I have seen 08 ST's with low mileage go for a similar price what are not Cat D's.

Your salvage mate is having your pants down.

Never the less, good car!

Ermm.... I'd give that one a miss personally.

Plenty of Focus ST's about for under 10k that haven't been smashed up.

If you want a facelift then give it 6 months for the new ST to drive the prices down.

Lots of people assuming the car is a dog, damage was purely body panels and one air bag....

Biggest expense was a door that needed replacing.

Replaced bumpers, front wing and ecu reset due to airbag deployment, new windscreen that's it.

^ Pretty much, we're all giving you advice to avoid it, you've said you don't know what to look for, and you're still getting the car.

10/10 for taking forum advice!!!
