I've bought two 20Ds in the past couple of months. The first still hasn't turned up, Royal Mail lost it. I'm still in the progress of sorting a refund out with the seller.

The second which I bought on Wednesday evening turned up today (I'm very happy with UPS's service). It's taken ~7,000 shots and cost me £422, which is a pretty good deal I think? The previous owner was a photographer, it's apparent it's been well looked after.

(the lens didn't come with it, I bought that for £100 or so)

I've not played with it much yet but it does seem like a very nice camera (after I changed the viewfinder Dioptric, I think the previous owner was blind). Apart from reading the book back to front does anyone have any tips on keeping it in good condition or just generally?

edit: I forgot to thank people on here for their help in the past. I wouldn't have gone with the 20D if I didn't read from people here how it could be had for so little.

Thanks :).

I have that lens !

Just keep it in the camera bag, I also chuck in a few of those silicon moisture absorbtion gel thing in the bag too. But this is England so it won't make much difference.

Ah that's another thing, I need to go buy a bag :D.

Haha, yeah, this is where it starts, first it will be a bag, then a telephoto, then a flash, then more memory, then a monopod, then something else!

Enjoy!

First of all, congrats on the camera. I had a 20D before upgrading to a 30D, it's a great camera.

As for keeping it in good condition there isn't any special thing you need to do just keep it dry, beware of condensation, try to keep it away from dust, store it with a packet of silica gel, buy a blower and learn to clean the sensor.

Get a bag
Lens pen & microfibre cloth
Giottoi rocket blower

Tripod, flash and other lenses can come later when you need them.

LOL! So true! I can remember thinking I could never justify buying a L lens and six months later I've got two

Slightly OT, but how do you find out how many shots its taken?
It's only possible if you have set file numbering as continuous. If you have then the number in the file name is the number of shots taken.

Me too! You can't whack it for the price.

Some cameras have the number taken by the body embeded in the exif header on every image taken, although I think this is only the 1 series of canons range, I've only checked on the 1Ds II

also on the 10d it only counts in 1000s so you need keep track of how many tens it has gone through.

Do you know what TAG we should be looking for in the EXIF's?

Thanks for the comments :). I'm impressed so far, despite not being the most expensive lens the 28-105 seems very nice. Too bad it was raining today so I couldn't really take it outside.

My Dad used to do a lot of photography so luckily I have the pen, cloth and tripod (it's around 5ft when extended, so not too portable). I saw someone else post about the rocket blower a few weeks back, I'll look into it.

What kind of bag would people recommend? I'm not going to be buying masses of equipment so something fairly small would be good.
