Finally got F31fd, lovely! but why no manual mode?

Well I finally got myself a nice little P&S!

Looking though it, it's got loads more features than my Fuji E550 which it is replacing.

One thing got me thinking though, it's got AV and TV modes but no full manual mode? Not overly bothered as it's a P&S afterall, but how hard would it be if they added that extra notch on the wheel. Surely it's only software??

Shame someone can't hack the firmware and make (M) mode be fully manual!

Still a great little camera, well chuffed!
 
What features does it have over the e550? I always thought the e550/900 had more features ie full manual, raw etc and that the f31 was more p&s but with better high iso.

I have the e550 and find the combination of no IS and not so good high iso often means I am forced to use shutter speeds that are too slow to avoid shake. Hence I had considered whether to give up the extra features of the e550 and get an f31 while they are still available.
 
That's pretty much my reason for upgrading.

The ISO400 on the e550 was pretty terrible, and being limited to shutter speeds of 2 seconds also was a bit annoying.

The F31, goes up to 15 seconds in night mode. You also have VERY good performance up to ISO 800, I've found. It's also a lot thinner so fits in my pocket better. Sure it does not have full manual, but you have AV and TV modes which are near enough. But it does lack manual focus (as far as I can see) which means if you want funky DOF shots u have to find something to focus lock onto.

I'll take some pics this w/e and see what I can come up with.
 
Link in your sig boycee doesn't seem to be working. I too would be surprised if a decent p&s didn't have an M mode as my old-by-today's-standards Canon A80 had it, and 15sec shutter max too, plus a Manual focus of sorts, would take a while but it was possible.
 
Yeah my stupid web host keeps breaking. They just upgraded all their servers, prob is my domain keeps falling over!! Grr.

It's back up now though!!! (well My databases are down, but at least the photos are there!)
