Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Could you post a link to the full sized version of the pic please, its a bit small.

Spec looks rubbish, give me a moment.

Hi Stulid Thanks for the fast reply's hope the picture is bigger now viewable. Some tweaks look like a major reshuffle I get most of the changes you have suggested can you just explain the GFX card and the CPU changes
I take it that this will have no probs running latest games on max res?

The hyperthreading cores on the 3770K offer very little or virtually no gains in performance over the 3570k cpu.

The GPU'S specced by myself and stulid are far better than the 450.

I prefer RJCs spec if I'm honest..... Granted Stulid kept the case you liked though

Stulid offered a SLI/Xfire capable mobo (dual GPUs), RJC went with the cheaper mobo without it. As stulid said his spec could do with a better PSU to exploit the SLI/Xfire.

I would suggest a 2GB GPU, 1GB of VRAM is false economy in my eyes, it's not difficult to exceed 1GB with current titles. Which one you choose will depend on what games you play. The 7850 is good and overclocks well so is great bang for buck with the included games but the 660 RJC offered is better certainly on BF3.

660 vs 7850

The nvidia GPU also has cuda support which is widely used by lots of software. The i7 is overkill for gaming, the i5K makes more sense and CUDA can help it further so the loss of hyperthreading isnt the end of the world.

Thanks for the massive help guys, several considerations for this, my son who is 15 has been saving up for a long time for this, he has limited knowledge as I, I have not built a PC for about 5 years, but farely confident I could assemble this, not to fussed about the overclocking abilities although it would be nice to set it up once for peak performance, thinking about getting the cheaper mobo as duel prob wont be used, the sort of games he will play : skyrim, COD and minecraft. I also intend to get on it for HD video editing. Hope this gives a better idea

What resolution is the monitor?

Cutting down on the board and upping the GFX,

You can use this to compare how a i5 2500K is at various tasks compared to a i7 2600K (the 3570K and 3770K will just be an increase of theses graphs respectively)

You're welcome :)

Have a look at the software you are using. If your editing software makes use of CUDA then getting a i5K and the nvidia 660 GPU makes sense for your needs. You also get Quicksync to help with video encoding which uses the CPUs IGP (integrated graphics) to boost the process. Providing you have software that supports quick sync of course.

I thought I should mention I used the Coolermaster 612S as it's fan and design is geared towards being quiet. The case you chose has sound proofing so I figured noise was an issue to you (the CLC hinted this aswell). The 612S also includes a reusable tube of paste and has the brackets supplied to fit an additional fan to improve the cooling performance if desired later.

Not that the Matterhorn is a bad heatsink for the price, infact it should cool slightly better than the 612S. However the fans are mounted with wire clips which i find a pain in the backside and you only get enough to fit one fan, although the heatsink could mount another if you had the clips. It also only has a one use sachet of paste supplied if that makes any odds to you.

Stulids RAM is great for the price. I used the slower GEIL kit but to be fair the GEIL black dragon RAM is cheaper still and infact overclocks quite well past it's stated 1600mhz.....not that running RAM faster than 1600mhz makes much odds on this 1155 socket.

I look forward to seeing your next spec. Any questions or god forbid problems come build day...... you know where to find us :)

Yes have win 7 to put on it, busy day today but will pick this up once I get home, once again thanks for your help.
Noise isn't such a issue with the build my son will sleep through anything LOL

regarding the construction of the pc,im sure if your near someone on here they will pop round and give you a hand, there are some nice guys on here (like myself :)) and im sure someone will help locally.
