For the last 6 years I've always lived in Flats, going from one Flat to another, avoiding the hell of noise either from above, beside or below me. Some of the places were so bad, that I had a number of mental break downs and found it difficult to go on. From door slamming below my bed, to loud music and even people banging in the kitchen. I moved to this recent place which is beautiful inside, but even with Concrete floors I can still hear door slamming, and even the sound of people laughing up until the early hours. It wasn't long after I was diagnosed with a form of noise agrophobia, basically a fear of noise.

Today the good news, as from the 23rd or thereabouts, I'll be living in my very own semi-detached Bungalow. But what's even better is the location, other than the city I'm in now. It's surrounded by hills, woodlands and long fields Oh and my OWN garden!

I'm not sure what the neighbours are like as I'm not living there yet :( , but the area looks lovely, and my bedroom is not attached to anyone else! Nobody above it, below or next to it.

Most of you wont care " Cool story bro ", but this could be a really good change in my life!

Having lived in a lot of flats and having to deal with similar issues to you I can completely empathise. Though it never got that bad for me.

Good luck on the move and enjoy your new home :)

Sounds like a great move after what you've had to put up with. Hope it all works out! We lived in a ground floor flat years ago, the noise was horrendous, never again.

Congrats, sound like a good solution to your issue - there's nothing like moving to somewhere quiet, although it does mean any noises you get make you uber paranoid something's going on :D

Fingers crossed your new neighbours aren't too bad - worst case have a look in this thread for ideas about building soundproof stud walls

Nobody likes disrespectful noisy neighbours. My last neighbours weren't noisy but positively refused to look after their gardens, glad to be out of there and into a detached.

Congratulations, must feel good. If he hasn't bought, I'm hoping it is a housing association property. That way it's yours for life.

I know what you mean about noisy flats could drive you insane, in a quieter area myself for a while, what a difference, can take a while to adjust though, hopefully get back to mother nature one day, big gardens, growing your own food, nice and peaceful. Congrats.

Good for you and I'm sure it will greatly improve your quality of life.

My first place was a ground floor flat in a converted farm house. All was fine to start with as the flat above me was empty, as soon as someone moved in it became hell. There was no soundproofing at all, and could even hear the toilet being used above my bedroom.

Still appreciate living in a quiet house now because of that, even though it was many years ago.

Thank you everyone

Awesome, and well done! I could never live in a flat, I'd either get wound up by people making noise, or be paranoid that I was making too much, my current 1950s terraced house (so proper brick walls rather than the cardboard modern houses are made of) is bad enough when I can hear my neighbour's TV/radio all ****ing evening

But what is it like at night though?

I could never have a peaceful night where I am now, I go to bed at 11 sometimes, and they come in from work at that time, that's if they are actually working. As most of the time they are in all day

Hope it works out for you. I'm currently living in a top floor apartment and haven't heard a single noise from anyone below me. Nobody above or beside me and my bathroom has a window too (in response to someone above ;) )

After about 10pm it's ok (except at the weekend where they get hammered and start "singing" along to hits from the 60s/70s/80s before having a tiff and then spend the next hour slamming doors). It's still irritating that I can hear the bass in my office at the absolute opposite corner of the house (but I do have very sensitive hearing :p)
