Finally got round to order my Xbox 360 - I found a good deal for a Premium with Gears of War, Crackdown, GR3, Arcard game and an extra wireless controller for 289 so i snapped it up.

I currently have a 28inch FLAT Phillips CRT in my room - but have seen a Hansmann (sp?) 32inch HD LCD for sale which has had good reviews.

Would i honestly notice that much of a difference between the two?:)
I have played a fair bit on my brother 42inch plasma - but i know that his is quite top end and isn't a good comparison!

I have a cheaper HD LCD, the AOC that overclockers sell for £299 the 27" version and its superb, theres a huge difference in quality over normal crt tv's too hd lcd tv's.

My bro has a far more expensive Sharp lcd and i can't actually see any difference between them when i run the 360 on them but the 360 looks superb when run in high def, you can always use your pc monitor if you get a vga cable to test and see what you think as it will give you the same.

If you buy the official scart to use in SD the picture is very good but if you can play your games in HD then there is no comparison .

I'm running my 360 on a 32" Philips TV with the official advanced RGB scart cable and although it's perfectly playable and you can get a good idea of what the games should look like (higher quality textures, bump mapping etc) you feel like you're missing out on the shapness and quality you'd get with HD.

HD is worth every penny to play games on, the colour depth, definition and clarity are awesome. When I first got my 360 I ran it through composite on my LCD because at the time money was tight, oh god it looked awful, I really didnt play it much to start with. Then I went out and bought the VGA cable and GOW... OMFG! The amount of times I said to my mate "omfg the graphics on this game are immense" over live playign co-op was plenty. I can say for sure seein it on his 28" SD there is no comparison.

You can get some nice cheap 32" LCDs now and as someone earlier said, there isnt really that much difference between cheap and expensive... I have a quite cheap Matsui 32" in my bedroom, and my brother has a more expensive Samsung one in the living room cant tell the difference.

But if you can, get a HD set as big as you can afford, i dont think I would have had nearly as much fun with the 360 had it not been for my 32" :)

Get either the 27" or 32" AOC HD TV from Overclockers. £299 and £375 respectively. I got the 32" and it's bloody brilliant, they are fitted with LG TFT panels you know!

Forget brand snobbery and get an AOC you won't regret it...all those games demand playing in HD

If you use it on an SDTV, make sure you get an RGB scart cable - makes the world of difference, though obviously the quality varies from set to set.

The main problem on an SDTV is some of the text is sometimes hard to read.

The difference between SD and HD is noticable and definitely worth the upgrade. It doesn't have to be as expensive as buying an HD TV though. You could pick up a 20/22" PC monitor for about £200 which will do the same job as an HDTV but be slightly more flexible.

Or £299 for the AOC 27" HD LCD TV. Can be used as a monitor and TV and HD device for your Xbox 360/PS3 (HDMI) so IMHO a HD TV is more flexible - bigger too! So you can sit back and enjoy rhe HD glory.

ps Component rules!

I used SD for a year and it didn't bother me one bit. But then i got a HDTV and I was like  Couldn't go back now. Everytime I go round my mates its horrible playing pro evo on his SD TV :(

Bump your PC resolution down to as low as it will go, maybe 480x600 and look how horrible it is, that is the difference really.

Doom looked great and that ran at 320x200 or whatever resolution we had back in 1894. :D :p

Well for 50% of the price more yeah. Plus I've never heard of AOC so I don't know what the quality is like and according to the website they have no UK support network. With a PC monitor you can afford a great brand, with great service, it'll be thinner, bigger resolution, better response time, etc.

Both have their plus points. I would just prefer to save up for a quality HDTV rather and settle for the PC monitor in the mean time. I don't need 27" when I'm sitting a couple of metres from the screen and I doubt it would fit on my desk lol.

I think i have been highly persuaded by all of your replies - thank you very much ! :D

I will hook it up to SD when it arrives and just see for myself. But i will have my mouse hovering over a purchase of the Hanspree 32inch at £320 :)

Cheers !

You can get LG 32" screens for not far off that price!
