Yeah so its been an annoying few days constantly trying to decide what to get.

I need a pc for GAMING, I like to play Cod4/tf2/css at a high level, so need a constant 120fps and a res of ~1024x800 max. I'm hoping my new build will let me achieve this in the next call of duty, and make starcraft2/diablo 3 feel lovely and smooth.

I was going to order a new monitor, but I think I'll stick with my 19inch CRT and wait for a price drop on the 120hz lcd's (don't want 3d glasses ;p)

I'm probally going to just order this in the morning, I've been waiting a whole year to get this new pc so must bite the bullet and order within the next 24 hours.

I was going to go with an dual core intel but I've heard this spec is more futureproof? Not sure why. However, I don't want to go over this budget really if I'm going to be shelling out £300+ on a TFT.

Will it be hard to build this comp? My first build was my current machine and for some reason I'm dreadind building another, scared that I might put the cpu in wrong and blow it up :S

Edit: I'm also going to be running XP home initially, I know I wont get the full 4gigs of ram but it is worth upgrading considering I mainly just want to play games?

For what you want to do it looks good. Do you need an optical drive and OS or have you already got?

You may want to consider getting a cpu cooler like this so you can overclock it and squeeze those extra frames out of it.

Oh yeah forgot about the cooler, now they look fun to install!

Will be using XP home

Also, is it worth spending the extra money and getting the i7? Surely this will last me a very long time before I need to upgrade?

An i7 is a brilliant chip and definitely the future, but for what you want to do it will likely not benefit you much. You plan to run FPS games at high speed, the best thing to have is a really fast GFX card. If you jumped over to an i7 system you would have to compromise graphics for the Motherboard and CPU to stay within budget. i7 is a number crunching monster - but for the games you mention an X3 or q6700 will give you the speed you need for less money.

The Titan comes with some Thermal paste - but not all TIMs are created equal. Personally, i'd get a tube of mx-2 which will last a while.

Definitely worth getting the paste? Should I apply it onto the paste already on the cooler?

The fenrir will 100% fit in my case?

Also added a cheap samsung dvd drive to my cart. I've VERY excited about ordering this tomorrow morning, will take lots of photos while I build it. I'm mainly making sure it gets built soon as the gf is doing my head in about the Sims 3.

But argh, my 19inch CRT monitor is going to look totally naff, I'm very tempted to get a cheap 19inch LCD. Something like http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-081-SA&groupid=17&catid=276&subcat= or http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-073-VS&groupid=17&catid=276&subcat= ?

The titan will definitely fit in the antec 900, no problem at all.

The Titan Fenrir does not come with any thermal paste installed (unless something bad went on during shipping :)) so you add it on yourself. A tube of acme grease comes with the cooler, you could take the chance and use it. But you'd be much better off going with a known quantity - the mx-2. Its a widely respected thermal interface material.

BTW - that samsung monitor looks very stylish but for the price you may as well get a 22in for a few quid more.

Ok I've just brought an antistatic wrist strap for peace of mind :) Got everything ready for my build tomorrow, will start 4pm hopefully when the gf gets round and post some photos. This is her Sims3 machine so shes going to be here to read the manuals and make sure I don't mess it up. I better not be missing any cables!
