Intel convert and spec'ing for a mid range gaming rig, to replace my aging AMD rig. I have already got;

Coolermaster HAF 912+
Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 mobo
16gb Samsung Green Ram
NZXT Sentry2 fan control
Additional 200mm Coolermaster and 140mm Bitfenix red led fans

I'm not an extreme OC fanatic, but would like to try and push over 4ghz (air)and keep the noise down :p therefore I have avoided IB cos of heat (I won't saturate PCIe3 either) so that allows me to go i5 2500k and less agressive cooling and max out my £360 budget on the biggest SSD I can afford - about to pull the trigger on;

Core i5 2500k retail
Zalman CNPS9900-MAX Red Ultra Aero
SanDisk 240GB Extreme SSD

--------------------------------------

With £500 left for the front end of the system next month with;

Sapphire HD7870 OC (which will OC further) edit - loving the OC 7850 thread...
Dell u2412m 1920x1200 16:10 IPS

...final amendment (IF my overtime over the Olympics pays off) reason I went for the Dell IPS monitor was - I might end up with two more in eyefinity and want the IPS viewing angle to allow PPP of LLL trials with a second 78** CF. If I don't spend the extra on PC bits the rig should stand as it is, pretty well!

Any thoughts welcome :cool:

Forgot to mention, already have an OCZ Fata1ity 550W PSU and Thermaltake (5.25 bay) 250W PSU to transfer to the rig too :D

I am toying with holding back on the 7870 for the 7850 - (staying Sapphire for the better cooling) with lower power requirements my Thermaltake 250W twin output would cover the CF and they oc like HELL UNLEASHED! :D

YOUR BASKET
1 x OcUK GeForce GTX 670 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £309.95
1 x Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £259.99
1 x Sandisk Extreme SSD 120GB 2.5" SATA-3 Solid State Hard Drive - (SDSSDX-120G-G25) £81.95
Total : £663.29 (includes shipping : £9.50).

I`d advise a lower amount of SSD and to purchase a better CPU, since as time goes on you cant add 2nd CPU to the build while you can do that with SSD.

If you do not wish to change CPU, I`d still advise to spend saved cash on SSD on a good video card Like GeForce 670

Gaming does not utilize hyperthreading
no point of having it
get i5
and 670

I5 3670k

Do you really need 240gb SSD??? If you have the cash then great :)

I run 2 pc's... my admin/work PC is normally full of bits from my last gaming rig (which will be a 939 4800+ a8n sli premium with over a 1TB on 2 HDD's for all the photo's, work, e-mail etc - my DVD's are currently going onto a WD external Drive connected to a WDTV Live, connected directly to my lounge TV... when I finally get them all copied!

So I'm planning on it being the only drive... where as most 'peeps' put in a 60gb SSD for the OS and crucial files and then a mechanical HDD for the rest... silence rules :D It will ONLY game... therefore I reckon it will easily hold the OS and 3 or 4 titles I'm currently playing - at break neck speed. The rest of the games will be in my drawer...

Spot on - Gaming only... i5 good price point!

£500 Budget for GPU and Monitor

Hence avoiding 670, I need to replace my 5year old 19" 5:4 tft... I like the size and cant look at a 16:9 without feeling like I should squint just a bit :D so stuck my neck on the line and opted for the 16:10 Dell 24" afterall, I can add another GPU in CF to get the fps up or cope with eyefinity if I get there... :p

Well at least no one thought the cpu cooler was a rubbish idea :cool:, to match with the coolermaster theme... and yes there was more thought than just matching the red led's :p it should do a reasonable job with a 2500k, with a modest OC :) from the reviews I've read.
