Not sure why I feel so self important to make my own thread, but Ive finally ordered a complete set of parts for my new system. I feel like a kid in a sweet shop im that excited. :D

An upgrade was long over due (understatement). My current system comprised of an AMD Athlon 3200XP cpu, DFI Lanparty NFII Ultra B main board, Radeon 9700 Pro graphics card and 1GB matched pair of Corsair PC3200 DDR ram.

Ive had the system that long that I remember paying over 300 quid for the 9700 PRO. Cant exactly remember the price of the ram but it was over 200 quid for 1GB PC3200. The last time I put together a PC for myself, the general consensus was that AMD was king over Intel.

That said, Ive ordered my new system and I'm going from an AMD Athlon 3200 to an Intel Q6600. Switching my DFI n-Force 2 motherboard to a Gigabyte P45 motherboard. My Radeon 9700 Pro is being replaced with a Radeon HD 4870. Going from 1GB PC3200 DDR ram straight to 8GB PC2-8500 DDR2 ram.

Expecting this to be quite an upgrade considering Ive missed quite a few generations of parts. Im not going to be able to sleep tonight in anticipation of tomorrow waiting for the man from DHL.

I cant wait but my old pc has served me well, if I get half the amount of time out of my new system as I have out my old Athlon and DFI n-Force 2 setup I will be happy. Part of me doesnt want to let my old system go as Ive had it that long that I feel Ive grown up with it lol. I'm going to have to find a room without a PC in it and keep it as an antique or something.

The nearest Ive got to playing games has been playing stick cricket online and even that is sometimes too hot to handle for my current spec. :p The only proper games Ive every really bothered with on PC are flight simulator's and the odd run at Empire Earth and the like. I couldn't tell you what my main use for a PC is because I seem to sit hours at my PC yet come away having done nothing of note. My new system will be overkill for 95% of my day to day needs, but there's nothing like a new toy to play with. :)
