...gotton my 'new' car running, taxed, moted etc.

I've been waiting for this for the last few months, it's nothing fancy, just a 1.4 Peugeot 205 with 125k on the clock. But having not had a car since I started uni it's so nice to have one now. Unfourtunatly it is missing a rear wheel at the moment  As the read wheel baring needed replacing...then I saw a crack in the hub so got my brother to pick up a clean one from a breakers, hopefully the baring in the new hub is ok, if not I have a spare to go in it.

Anyways, on to the pic...didn't see much point in taking more than one :p

As you can see, it's in one of Peugeot's 'limp-wristed' colours, but hey it's a car. It's not running stock wheels as they are naff, so it has the steelies from my 306 on it, slightly wider tread and wheelbase.

The inside is a nice colour of...well it's kinda muddy, needs a clean, the seats however are rather minging, so I'm probably going to put my brother's half leather GTi seats in it (front and rear) as they are in better condition.

Unfourtunatly I don't know how it drives yet, what with only just getting it running again after it's MOT, and my brother taking ages to sort the wheel hub-baring out.

*dons his flame suit*...

Get some GTI wheels on there :p Paint looks in fairly good condition for it's age.

I don't have the cash for some GTi wheels :(

The wheels I would put on it, are on the 306, which is now my brother's...he swapped them...git.

I would like to have some on it, but they can wait, it has wheels, that's the most important thing about them :p

The paintwork looks great...I love my camera phone...the paintwork actually isn't so good, few scrapes and dents...and it's filthy!

Also it looks like someone removed the bumpstrip thing on the driver's rear wing...with a large object, hence that scrape.

My bro got the car and has had it in the garage for about 2 years now, so it's not brilliant, but decent. It has a strange highpitched whine when revved some times, I can't work out if it's a belt or not, but doesn't sound very 'belty'.

My main thing against it is the gear knob..it's horrible! It has a 5 speed box, and reverse is below fith, no lift or push for it (which is good), but the knob is just really rather small and silly, once used to it may have to get a better sized/shaped one.

I do love it though, just because it's a whole 200cc bigger than my girlfriend's clio :D

I'll probably do a wash this weekend, clean it up and ax it etc. aswell as do my girlfriend's car...may aswell, stops her complaining. So I'll have some decent photos of the cars then. :)

nice motor :)
my first car was a G reg fiesta, sure it was a bit tatty, but great fun to drive as it felt like a go kart (not much in the way of interior features) :D

My mother used to have a G reg Peugeot 205 about 10 years ago, at the time it was probably only a couple of years old and my mother did very little mileage but my gosh was it a terrible car, I remember myself even though I was young it broke down 3 times while I was with her, plenty of times on her own, it eat through 2 clutches, 2 exhausts, would not start half of the time on a cold morning even with the choke out (manual choke as well :() and was basically a complete heap. Maybe this particular car was just a lemon, and god was she pleased when she got rid of it, but that's my experience of them and I wouldn't go near one. I can't believe it's done 125,000, when we sold ours it had only done about 40k completely unabused and cost a bomb to keep running

It's my third car! To be honest, it's cheaper to run, insure, tax than the 306, and it was free from my brother, so I can't really complain about it.

What a boring person. :D

This one has a manual choke, oh the joys...

Brother finished the wheel tonight, I fired it up and reversed around the house with no lights on...couldn't see much, but was too lazy to turn them on :p
The main problem with 205s is the distance you have to push the break down...damn far, probably get a right shock when I next drive my girlfriend's car.

I need to get the tracking done, but techincally can't take it on the road till Friday, and I'm not here from about 7 or 8 in the morning till midnight Friday, typical.

I'm just glad I have my own car, only thing is now I need money to run it, insurance messed me around so I lost nearly £100, and I currently have no job. :(

Something wrong there then, my 205's brakes are really good, hardly have to move the pedal at all.

205's are cheap to run, you can find most bits down at the scrapyard! There's a for sale section on http://forum.205gtidrivers.com - people on there selling all kinds of parts, base model stuff too :) If you need a hand with anything, give me a shout, I've owned far too many of the things, quite close to you as well.

My mate's one that he had as a first car was the same. It passed it's MOT, which I guess is the main thing. :)

Well you're only near by whilst I'm at uni ;) I thinking of uprating the car a bit with random extra bits that make it better to drive...but first I need a job. :(

Nice. My first car was an F reg too. That was 10 years ago though. :p

Hope she does you proud and doesn't cost you too much to run.

I'm registered as the same name over there, albeit without the - at either end :)

I'm registered as FinalD over there...made a post, then worked out my problem (hopefully) before people answered it. heh.

Just thought I'd update this thread with some clean piccies of the 205 (yes they are in the sticky too)...

back too black all that plastic

which brings me onto the question of asking :

xez what did you use on the side trim of the clio in your sig ? back to black or have they been painted with that vinyl paint ? they look good

They is 306 steelies and hubcaps :D

I don't like the look of the 14" from the 1.6, I prefer the 15" on the 1.9..which means stck on arch extensions...but then with that and the half leather interior I have to go in it, it seems like I'm trying to make a 1.4 XR into a 1.6/9 GTi and then the car screams chav. :(

I just love the engine though, absolutly amazing, solong as it's cold it'll start, usually about 1-2 times a day, more than that and it'll turn over, but will not fire.

I have a new job, starting at 8am tomorrow, and the tracking needs doing, and the tank needs filling, now I was going to get the tracking done this afternoon, but now can't as at 5 the car wouldn't start, and the place closes at 5.30.

I was hoping it would work till the end of the day tomorrow, so once finished work I could just phone the RAC, but alas, that can't be done.

So seeing as my whole family (the ones that know about cars) are completely stumped I got mum to call the AA for a homestart (my RAC cover doesn't have it), and her is on her, and not her car, so she can do it. Not exactly cosher I know, but still, if someone can shed some light on this it'd be great, and it's almost impossible to do that unless they are here, hence AA.

I am not a happy bunny though this evening. :(

I couldn't find anything like B-to-B in my brother's collection of cleaning gear, otherwise I would have used it.
